Israel is quietly getting much closer to Azerbaijan, a small country bordering northern Iran along the coast of the Caspian Sea. Israel has recently supplied Azerbaijan with a $1.6 billion arms deal including “sophisticated drones and missile defense systems” and has also, U.S. officials suspect, secured access to airfields which could be essential to Israeli fighter jets flying bombing missions over Iran. Mark Perry, writing in Foreign Policy:
“We’re watching what Iran does closely,” one of the U.S. sources, an intelligence officer engaged in assessing the ramifications of a prospective Israeli attack confirmed. “But we’re now watching what Israel is doing in Azerbaijan. And we’re not happy about it.”
…The U.S. intelligence and diplomatic officials told me they believe that Israel has gained access to these airbases through a series of quiet political and military understandings. “I doubt that there’s actually anything in writing,” added a senior retired American diplomat who spent his career in the region. “But I don’t think there’s any doubt — if Israeli jets want to land in Azerbaijan after an attack, they’d probably be allowed to do so. Israel is deeply embedded in Azerbaijan, and has been for the last two decades.”
…Former CENTCOM commander Gen. Joe Hoar simplified Israel’s calculations: “They save themselves 800 miles of fuel,” he told me in a recent telephone interview. “That doesn’t guarantee that Israel will attack Iran, but it certainly makes it more doable.”
For what it’s worth, officials in Azerbaijan have denied that Israel has been given access to airfields and that they would ever assist Israel in an attack on Iran.
If this is true and I do not doubt it is, since corruption is everywhere and politicos would sell own mother if somebody offers the a good price it is a tragedy. If Israel starts the war, and it looks they already decided to do that in spite of the fact that US and their own spy bodies are confirming Iran's claim on peaceful character of Iran's nuclear work, Azerbaijanis will suffer for their corrupt leaders. This is like spread of the cancer in sick body. Azerbaijan is member state of Turkic Council, it aspire to be a member of criminal enterprise NATO and EU, so it is obvious why they sell out to Israel their Shia religon. Nato should be probably renamed to GCE (global criminal enterprise) since it is no more Atlantic and it is definitely no more defensive organisation. We see clearly how the camps of nations are rising just as before of World Wr I and II. It looks like Israel is up to starting World War III, the most destructive war of mankind history.
Yeah maybe if the big war starts, Azerbaijan makes an attempt to recapture Nagorno Karabakh. This might suck in the Russians to defend. Then, who knows….
How would Israel get jets to Baku? Turkey wouldn't permit use of their airspace.
Look at the map. Azerbaijan is sandwiched in between Iran and Russia.
They better be very careful because neither Putin nor the mullahs will tolerate US/Israeli mischief there beyond a certain level for show.

This is the same game they played in Georgia. The Russians called up the junior military and had them drive tanks over every Georgian military equipment. The Russians destroyed the port facilites which were being use to supply the Israel military forces that were playing illegal settlers in Georgia. In a very short time the Israel military left and apparently moved to another host to destroy. It is pretty clear that Russia is not going to allow another old Colonial power aka NATO fort on its borders.
It actually appears to be a pretty stupid game since the Israel air force could lose most of its equipment in somre fool stunt. In 1973 Israel lost every jet in its air force because they failed to come up with a different plan than those used in the past. This could happen again and as in the past the US taxpayers will shell out a lot of billions of dollars to replace the military equipment destroyed. The most amazing thing is the Israel actually believe they can pull another sneak attack but I think no one would ever trust the Israel military and I hope that includes our military. The USS Liberty shows that Israel has no friends.
I wouldn’t worry about the two Azeri airstrips. They would be totally destroyed before Israeli jets could land there after their supposed bombing attack on Iran.
Actually I think they would be destroyed right after the Israel Jets land and before they could take off. THe entire situation looks like a really stupid stunt by Israel. I think they are banking on the backing of the USA to prevent being attacked. It might be a case of lots of bad luck to the jets on the ground.
If nothing Azerbaijan is a very good strategic area for US and EU when they want to attack Iran, and defending the Oil flow and natural gas from Caspian Sea to Balkan, they (US and NATO) didn't get involved selling all that military equipment because it was pay off deal to Israel for not attacking Iran for now, in another word Hillary or other high ranking US department was in Azerbaijan and made the deal for Israel, so the only thing Israel needed to do was to sign the agreement. Yet all tat equipment is made in US, US didn't want to have his name on the contract, but surly they would be able to use all of it when the time is right for war with Iran, perhaps Russia or other central asian country.
