This week’s top news:

Afghan Police Commander Kills Three US Special Ops: The US troops were lured to their deaths by an Afghan police commander who invited them to dinner Thursday night. The Taliban claimed responsibility and said the gunman had defected to the insurgency.

Clinton Hypocritically Warns Against Supporting Proxies in Syria: Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Tuesday warned against the conflict in Syria descending into sectarian warfare because of "proxies or terrorist fighters" being sent to join the fight, forgetting that this is actually US policy.

WH Counterterror Chief Downplays US War in Yemen: In a speech at the Council on Foreign Relations on Wednesday, White House counterterrorism chief John Brennan tried to defend America’s policies toward Yemen by downplaying the largely secret war the Obama administration is waging there.

US-Backed Ugandan Military Deploys Air Force Over Somalia: The war against the al-Qaeda-linked group al-Shabab involves attacks from all sides; from Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, and several other AU countries from Burundi to Djibouti. But this is Washington’s war.

US Deploying Surveillance Drones Near China: In keeping with the Obama administration’s antagonistic military postures towards China, the US has backed various neighboring countries from Japan to the Philippines. Even Sen. John McCain, one of the biggest hawks in Congress, called the deployment of drones "unnecessarily provocative."
