John Bolton Shockingly Denies Being a ‘Terrorist Supporter’

The American Conservative’s Jordon Bloom ran into a befuddled John Bolton at the Republican National Convention yesterday and had a timely question for him:

He was on his way in to observe the speeches, and I knew he wouldn’t have much time to answer more than a question or two in passing. So I asked the most important one: given the definition laid out in Holder v. Humanitarian Law Project, was he at all concerned that his advocacy on behalf of the Iranian dissident group the MEK could be defined as material support for terrorism under the PATRIOT Act?

Bolton, visibly flustered at the suggestion that he is a terrorist supporter, disputed the premise before cutting me off:

“I don’t know what you’re up to, but you’re flatly wrong, and I’m busy, so if you’ll excuse me.”

He is indeed a busy man, but if he ever cares to take some time out of his day to explain why I’m wrong, my email is jbloom[at]theamericanconservative.com. Or he could take it up with Glenn Greenwald or Larison.

Oh, how I’d love such an inquiry from Bolton. Perhaps Jordan could also ask why Bolton’s former employer, George W. Bush, included Saddam Hussein’s support for terrorists like MEK in his propaganda justifying the invasion of Iraq in 2003. “Iraq shelters terrorist groups including the Mujahedin-e-Khalq Organization,” reads a document in the archives of the White House’s website, “which has used terrorist violence against Iran and in the 1970s was responsible for killing several U.S. military personnel and U.S. civilians.” Is Bolton proud of this point of commonality between him and Saddam?

  1. House’s website, “which has used terrorist violence against Iran and in the 1970s was responsible for killing several U.S. military personnel and U.S. civilians.” Is Bolton proud of this point of commonality between him and Saddam?

  2. Bolton's flagrant support of terrorism is par for his course. Bolton has larger issues to explain. Bolton is a loudmouth warmonger AND he is a war criminal. The smarmy little punk SHOULD be shackled in chains, head to toe, and planted unceremonially in the dock at the ICC. Of course and it is a given, the ICC is constrained by it's own glaring hypocrisy.

  3. That must have been quite a shock to get asked a real question rather than the sycophantic flattery that he's used to getting from journalists.

  4. An example of Bolton's typical "fuck you!" attitude toward anyone not inside the Neocon inner circle.

    Par.

  5. Written declaration 0075/2010, tabled by Alejo Vidal-Quadras, Stephen Hughes, Kristiina Ojuland, Søren Bo Søndergaard and Struan Stevenson, on Camp Ashraf (minutes of 25.11.2010, item 7 and P7_TA(2010)0452), had been signed by 401 Members.

    Camp Ashraf

Declaration of the European Parliament of 25 November 2010 on Camp Ashraf

    The European Parliament ,

    – having regard to its previous resolutions on human rights in Iran,

    – having regard to its resolution of 24 April 2009 on Camp Ashraf(1) , home to 3400 Iranian dissidents in Iraq, including 1000 women, all of whom are ‘Protected Persons’ under the 4th Geneva Convention,

    – having regard to the removal of the opposition PMOI from the EU's blacklist in 2009,

    – having regard to Rule 123 of its Rules of Procedure,

    A. whereas several relatives of Ashraf residents have been sentenced to death by the Iranian regime after returning from visits to their families in Ashraf,

    B. whereas the Iraqi Government has failed to respect the EP resolution and is continuing a merciless siege of the Camp,

    C. whereas the residents are still being subjected to external pressures under the pretext that the PMOI remains on the US blacklist,

    D. whereas in July 2010 the US Appeals Court in Washington ruled in favour of the PMOI and urged the State Department to review its decision to maintain them on the US terrorist blacklist,

    E. whereas US and UN forces have withdrawn from Ashraf and residents are now vulnerable to attack,

    1. Calls on the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy to urge the USA to follow the example of the EU by removing the PMOI from its blacklist and to urge the UN to provide urgent protection for Ashraf;

    2. Instructs its President to forward this declaration, together with the names of the signatories(2) , to the Council, the Commission and the parliaments of the Member States.

  6. add to that 22 victorious court ruling in favor of MEK in UK, France EU and US, rejecting the terrorist designation, including two the US Court of Appeal DC Circuit and also the Fact that the residents in Camp Ashraf, members of MEK are considered as protected persons under the 4th Geneva Convention.

Mr bolton is thus very save and right on the point, delist MEK now. By the way wasn't Nelson Mandela on the FTO-list????????

    1. Hasnt at least ONE United States Supreme Court Associate Justice called George W Bush a Probable War Criminal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Suggest you read the MinorityJudgements of Hamdin V Rumsfeld!

As for Bonkers Bolton, he really is insane!

Pres Clinton arranged with the Nth Koreans to shut down their Nuclear reactors, they were cold, Boltons Bluster caused them to reopen, and re-establish their Nuclear weapon Program!

  7. If the Iranian people (excluding opportunistic ex-pats seeking to pillage Iran for their own profit) regard the MEK as terrorists, we should support them.

  8. It's always hard to tell a terrorist from a freedom fighter, especially when your allegiances are changing all the time depending upon the boogeyman of the moment. Don't be so hard on Republican war pigs. They surely can't be expected to be consistent with all the ephemeral, creative justifications they have used to make war. On the long road to remaking MIddle East countries in our image, one-by-one, domino-style, there are sure to be some lapses in memory.

  9. MEK deserves to be recognized by John Bolton and UK Government and so in EU courts, because Iranian people don't, never have and never will, not because they don't want to but because they (MEK) is supported by John Bolton and other alike, which means if they support MEK then Israel supports them too so they (MEK) must also support Israel and its apartheid regime as well.

  10. The smarmy little punk SHOULD be shackled in chains, head to toe, and planted unceremonially in the dock at the ICC. Of course and it is a given, the ICC is constrained by it's own glaring hypocrisy.

  11. The MEK was the force that entered the US Embassy in Iran, no ifs no why's no buts, they were there and they treated US Embassy staff badly, ask any member of that Diplomatic mission if the MEK are Terrorists or if they should be delised from the Terrorist watch lists, I can give you a quick idea of the percentage that would like to see them prosecuted for War Crimes 100%, and Bolton and his cohorts who are receiving money to lobby for them, should be sent to Gitmo, out of reach of the US Justice system!

  12. Lebanon civilian deaths morally not same as "terror victims" — John Bolton

"It's simply not the same thing to say that it's the same act to deliberately target innocent civilians, to desire their deaths, to fire rockets and use explosive devices or kidnapping versus the sad and highly unfortunate consequences of self-defense," Bolton noted.

The eight dead Canadians were a Lebanese-Canadian couple, their four children, his mother and an uncle, said relatives in Montreal.

The Montreal pharmacist and his family had arrived in Lebanon 10 days earlier for a vacation in his parents' home village and to introduce his children to relatives, they said.

Three of his Lebanese relatives died too, a family member told

"I think it would be a mistake to ascribe moral equivalence to civilians who die as the direct result of malicious terrorist acts," he added, while defending as "self-defense" Israel's military action, which has had "the tragic and unfortunate consequence of civilian deaths".

    1. Ben Gerion wanted Lebanon to be part of Israel but it run by the
French.Ben Gurion understood how wasteful his people were and they would need the water of thr Latania river. There is no "self-defense" in the Israel attacks on Lebanon. It is water thief that is the reason to attack defenseless Lebanon. Bolton is a flaming zionist who believes that Israel has the right to murder anyone in the cause of expansion. Gas has been discovered off Lebanon which is just another plus to invade.

  13. That must have been quite a shock to get asked a real question rather than the sycophantic flattery that he's used to getting from journalists.
