Israel’s Latest Assault on Gaza: The Lie of Who Started It
Israel has again attacked Gaza. In its aerial and ground assault that began on Saturday, November 10th, at least 7 Palestinians have been killed, 5 of them civilians, 3 of whom were children. Up to 52 others, including 6 women and 12 children, have been wounded.

One of the wounded is carried into a hospital in Gaza City following Israel’s shelling (Reuters/Mohammed Salem)
As in every vicious military offensive Israel carries out in Gaza, the dominant narrative is that it is a response to rocket fire from Gaza into southern Israel. This is how it’s being reported in the US, and this is how virtually every American understands it.
And it’s a lie.
It’s true that on Saturday, prior to the expanded Israeli bombardment, the military wing of the Popular Front For the Liberation of Palestine shot an anti-tank missile at an Israeli Defense Forces vehicle near the Gaza border, wounding four Israeli soldiers. But what prompted the firing of the anti-tank missile?
First, on Monday, November 5th, Israeli forces shot and killed 23 year old Ahmad Nabhani when he “approached the border fence with Israel.” According to at least one account, Nabhani was mentally challenged.
Then, on Thursday, November 8th, the Israeli Occupation Forces – eight tanks and four bulldozers, to be exact – invaded southern Gaza, shooting and killing a 13-year old boy. Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (via):
According to investigations conducted by PCHR, at approximately 16:30 on Thursday, as a result of the indiscriminate shooting by IOF military vehicles that had moved into the ‘Abassan village, 13-year-old Ahmed Younis Khader Abu Daqqa was seriously wounded by a bullet to the abdomen. At the time he was shot, Ahmed had been playing football with his friends in front of his family’s house, located nearly 1,200 meters away from the area where the IOF were present.
So, even if honest observers brush to the side the cruel and inhumane Israeli blockade on Gaza and refuse to let it influence the equation of exactly which side started this flare up of violence, it is clear Israel started this latest clash. And in response to the response, Israel has waged a harsh, disproportionate military assault.
This would be a simple thing to understand if, for example, Western media bothered to ask the other side what happened. Palestinian news media immediately reported that the anti-tank missile Israel was supposedly responding to was admitted to by the Popular Resistance Committees, who described it as “revenge” for preceding Israeli violence on Gaza. But that basic task of honest journalism is apparently out of the question.
Every single Israeli incursion or attack on Gaza is accompanied by the same narrative: Israel fairly responded to unprovoked Palestinian rocket fire. The last major war on Gaza, Operation Cast Lead in December ’08-January ’09, also carried this narrative. Israel committed war crimes in that one-sided conflict, targeting and killing hundreds of civilians, using indiscriminate weapons, and intentionally destroying civilian infrastructure. It has become an accepted fact – even among critics of Israel – that the offensive was a response to Hamas rocket fire. The rocket fire did indeed occur immediately before the assault, but it was in response to Israel’s breaking of the six-month cease-fire, which even Israeli officials in WikiLeaks cables admitted Hamas had kept to.

And the verdict is, Israel wins, and the loser is, nobody that matters.
And the man with tje blindfold on asked what kinda bullets are you using, and when told they were hollow points said they are illegal. So the firing squad used fmj.
The law is the law after all.
When the firing squad was asked of what crime did he commit , they did not no they just did what the law told them to do.
What law is that,”To follow orders”.
Is there no crime greater than following orders?
Yes, ” to npt question those orders and the men that make them.
BUT if your only answer is for them to use fmj instead of a hollow point who dares ask the question?

The "civilized world"by M-me Ashton mouth condemned the Gaza's rockets towards Israel which are directed against entire population without discrimination. But is Israel which punished all Gaza population without discrimination making Gaza a big concentration camp where ,in plus, following a scenario identical with this of today (lies and propaganda about that the other side didn't respect the cease fire),was committed crimes against humanity. Then ike today elections were closing.

You don't like criticism that disturbs your world view do you? Well that's ok because nobody outside of your circle of Jew-haters cares about what you think. It's a bit worrying that so many of your followers can't even spell Palestine! Operation Cast Lead was provoked by Hamas firing 15,000 missiles into Israel in 3 years and kidnapping an Israeli soldier.

You seem very proud of your support for an openly racist country which Israel most definitely is. Perhaps you should examine your own conscience before criticising others for being racist. BTW, how many Israelis did those 15,000 rockets kill (calling them missiles is rather deceptive since they have no guidance mechanism)? How many Palestinians were killed during the same period?
Finally, as a member of a military force imposing a blockade, Gilad Shalit was a perfectly legitimate target for capture and detention as a prisoner of war. Would you care to enlighten us as to how many Palestinians were kidnapped during the period of his detention by the occupation force known as the IDF?

Those 15,000 rockets were fired indiscriminately – they were all intended to kill. You’ll have noticed that Israel targeted Jabari, not civilians. Hamas hides in bunkers underneath schools and hospitals, and fires missiles from within civilian areas in the hope that Israel will strike those areas. That’s not very statesmanlike. Shalit was in Israel so that was an incursion by Hamas. That’s fair enough, but you have to understand that Israel will not let any terrorist action go unpunished.
The fact that you call Israel a racist country is just evidence of your own intrinsic racism. You’ve clearly never been anywhere near Israel. All faiths can practice freely in Israel and Arab Israeli citizens have more rights here than any other country in the Middle East, whereas Gaza is a place where Christians are persecuted and forced to convert to Islam. Are you down with that? Women cannot smoke or ride motorcycles and have to wear the hijab. Is that how you treat women? When is the next election scheduled for Gaza?
Most Middle Eastern countries are run by dictators who steal the oil and gas revenues, keep the people under-educated and blame Israel for everything.
Hamas was based in Damascus for many years while Assad supplied them with weaponry. They stood by while thousands of women and children were tortured and murdered by Assad. Do you go along with that too?

You dont know what your talking about ! Lying might be a better name for you than Lion even it is through Ignorance. The Semitic group you are talking about are of the same race as many Israelis to start with as Semite is the racial group that includes all Arab people and not the language group they are spread from Gaza through Israel Syria Jordan and all the way to Iraq, but not Iran. The Nazis also held talks of collusion with the said Arabs during their office and prior to this there was no independant Palestine as it was under Turkish rule( a non-Arab people)then British and finally 2 states created by UN mandate one Israel and the other Palestine though technically half of Jordan is now where the original territory known to the world as Palestine was also. After the Declaration of Israel (regardless of ones opinion on whether it should or should not exist of which more)The Arab speaking nations all formed an uneasy alliance to attack it in 1948 and subsequently many times after. The main Problem is as i referred to earlier is both your and other nations recognising the Right of Israel to exist if you deny this fundamental position then obviously your sympathies lie with Palestinians and you are therefore prejudiced and Bigoted, if however one concedes that Israel does and should thrive it does not necessarily mean that it can not be held accountable for it's actions. When is an act of aggression a verifiable defense ? However, I am dismayed to hear from other nations that israel is a racist nation this only re-inforces the fact of their ignorance as a nation it has many laws in place to safeguard racial equality and the very fact that modern Judaism is a religion comprised of many races makes it imperative, I think these people are confusing the right to return for Jews only with "Paki Bashing that went and still goes on In the U.K. the Islamophobia in the west and other nations bigotry.

Today, the Israel Defense Forces dropped thousands of leaflets in Arabic over Gaza with this message. While Hamas' goal is to kill Israeli civilians, the IDF does everything that it can to avoid Palestinian casualties. Share the truth.
Thousand missiles fired from Gaza every year in purpose of killing civilians.
Those missiles threat the lives of more than half a million people!
Israel have the right to defense our civilians!
12,000 missiles fired from Gaze in the past 12 years – do the math – 1000 missiles every year – about 3 missiles a day in average….
This blog is a lie!
Until you don't come to Israel and see for yourself you all live in a lie!
This is the Hamas charter:
Read part III article 11… http://www.thejerusalemfund.org/www.thejerusalemf…
Israel is in peace with Egypt and Jordan, ever since – never heard of attacks from Israel on those countries!!!
On the other hand, the charter describes that there is no chance for peace!
Israel is not to blame… IDF don't attack countries who don't attack him! This is the truth!
IDF risks his own troops to ensure minimize casualties in Gaza!
To all the people who hate so much, check your facts before you spread those lies.
Think for yourself – question authority!
come to israel and see the truth with your own eyes!

what do you say then Ninja to Israel killing 1400 people in the last offensive in Gaza? What do you say about incarcerating a nation in an open prison and systematically abusing their people on a daily basis. I lived in Northern Ireland much of what the British did to the Irish before the IRA fought back. You can only victimise people for so long before they fight back. They have mere small rockets which are no match for Israeli military power the fourth biggest army in the world. Your people were victimised by the Nazi's now you are doing the same thing to Palestinians. Your Government also has displaced hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homes on the West Bank and added illegal settlements – it is arrogant and a bully and we will boycott all Israeli goods until this victimisation of a race is stopped – we support our brothers and sisters in Gaza in their struggle against the zionist oppressor – you basically just do not care. On Riley, above: source on actual missile (and mortar?) numbers? the number keeps coming up, but beyond blogs I found nothing at all convincing (quick look, I admit). nice try at victimhood; look at public opinion stats worldwide telling us which nation is seen to threaten peace most; have you guessed? if you had read the articles and links you would realise that hamas cracked down on jihadists firing missiles or mortars into what is assertedly called israel. soldiers in uniform are generally taken prisoner (kidnapped just sounds cute); plus…
Alex Synge
November 15th, 2012 at 9:06 am
On Riley: you'd realise too that hamas was willing to recognise israel within the 67 borders (a move that surprised many and displeased others, incl Tel Aviv); got it? israel doesn't want to be recognised; recognition rhymes with concession and that just won't do; did the unsc vote israel's recognition in 1948? I suspect not; just the non-binding UN assembly res; correct me if I'm wrong; perhaps it had sthg to do with actually declaring where Israel's borders were to be, I guess; jew-haters? looking back over the last 3,000 years this must be the first time we've heard that expression (study Israel Shahak for enlightenment on that score) ; it's the israeli gov and washington who hate the jews; point yr finger in that direction; pity, though, so many jews are dupes (s'posed to be intelligent etc.); but you're not duped, are you?; part of the game I reckon.

in case anyone is wondering…israel-nato-empire has decided long ago that just before a false flag and an attack on iran-lebanon syria, they would attack gaza first because of the massive influx(they allowed) from of rockets and mortars from egypt and lebanon as well as syria into that region of gaza southern sinai. eliminateing the shorter range rockets by the thousands first and then going for iran=lebanons main stockpiles with drones and other high tech. the problem here is that the longer range more deadly rockets are already in northern regions near syria and in egyptian territories filled with chemical and bio-toxins ready to be fired soon at tel-aviv.
israel will take a serious hit and so will we in the mideast waters by false flags attacks and then israel-nato-empire will go in full force with air and ground support into iran and lebanon…see how syria reacts.

John, while your idea has merit I cannot see the above mentioned "Big Four" mounting a combined military challenge. Russia and China have historic differences, not to mention Pakistan's legitimate suspicion of India. How about throwing a few more players into the mix: (1) the non-aligned movement which met recently in Iran; (2) American "social justice" Jewry; (3) and uprising of Jews in Israel who grasp that Zionism will become pariah to the rest of the world; (4) American dissidents throwing a monkey wrench into the wheels of injustice which dominates the political and media scene. Zionism must go through pressure from all of these groups. Oh, did I leave out Bishop Tutu?

If you really want to stop those few primitive "rockets", stop making Gaza a concentration camp. Stop putting Palestinians "on a diet" as your leaders love to boast. Stop destroying their olive trees, farms and livelihood. Stop destroying their solar panels and electricity. Stop stealing their drinking water. Stop destroying their houses and stop stealing their lands. I could go on forever, but I know it's futile.

November 10th, at least 7 Palestinians have been killed, 5 of them civilians, 3 of whom were children. Up to 52 others, including 6 women and 12 children, have been wounded.

While I agree that the article is pure garbage, I don't think it is offensive at all. The article identifies an illiterate idiot with agenda. And illiterate idiots are simply unable to influence opinions based on objective facts. They (illiterate idiots) can only influence other illiterate idiots. That explains why you see the supporters of this article not being able to spell or express themselves.
Here is a simple explanation as to why there is no peace between Israel and Palestinian. For Palestinians and sponsoring them Iran, the main problem in the Middle East is NOT Israel's policies or acts, but rather the existence of Israel in of itself. As long as the right of Israel to exist, is being denied, there will be no peace. So, the solution is: accept Israel and you will have your State and peace the same way Egypt and Jordan have peace with Israel.
Israel must realize that the policy of containment is wrong: you simply can't contain those whose goal is your destruction. That means, Israelis must go in and clean the filth. And Israel should stop being stupid dropping those leaflets warning of incoming attacks. It is a war. Hamas is the government in Gaza and it bears total responsibility for civilian casualties by hiding their weaponry behind civilians.
And to clueless idiots on this board: grow up. Think about this: if Canadians were to fire thousands of rockets into Vermont, what do you think the US would do? Negotiate? File complaints with the UN?
Grow up and stop being brainless parasites.

(1) Criticism of the policy of the Israeli government is not "Jew-hating." In fact, a very good case can be made that Israel is hardly a "Jewish" country, despite its claims to the contrary. But never mind, that's a subject for a semester's worth of inquiry. (2) If one is going to talk about "provocation" one needs to look at first causes, as in, um, which entities invaded and took over whose land. Again here, a semester's worth of inquiry. (3) International law states that any population under foreign occupation has the right to defend itself and retaliate, including the use of violent means. I'm not advocating violence here; I'm simply saying that international law allows it. (4) Since when do soldiers get "kidnapped"?? Civilians are kidnapped; soldiers are captured. (5) Tony Riley, you would be well served personally if you were to study these matters in a little more depth.

Oh dear Alan, did you review what you've written before posting?….. Now you claim that people on here are pretty lacking in spelling, etc, but while that may be true the message is pretty clear and more closer to the truth than your hyperbole. Your assertions are full of half-truths, mis-leading and plain lies. Lets take your first statement; That the Palestinians and Iran do not recognise Israel's existence, first of all that is mis-leading to say the least, and is NOT the case. Israel is demanding that the Palestinians recognised Israel as the home of the JEWS! Now you say that you're a smart chap, but surly you must be aware of the sticky point with this demand? There is a problem with this demand on a couple of levels, on a moral level it is pure racist, and will exclude 25% of is population. The 2nd level will be the right of return for Palestinians and Jews from the diaspora, which by the way, as it stand now Jews from the four corners of the globe can come and live in Israel with their families and spouse if they wished to do so. Guess what, Palestinians do not have the same right, and we're talking about Palestinians refugees in limbo around the ME. So for Palestinian to recognise Israel as the home for the JEWS, is committing suicide and would waive their right to return, and would be waiving their group dignity by negating their historical narrative and national identity. It's an oxymoron to suggest to others and demand that they recognise Israel's right to exist when it is clear that they already do, since 1948 in fact. The burden is not on Palestinians to recognise Israel, but for Israel to join the international community as a Law abiding state, treating all is citizens as equals, which is NOT the case, and the opposite is true. It occupies other's land, and basically is an oppressive regime. Just check out which states breaks the most UN resolutions on the planet, and you will find Israel on top of the heap.
2nd Mr. Genius, you need to have two armies who are more or less equal in fire power to called it a war, what you have in Gaza is, Israel the 4th most powerful military force on the planet, with all the latest technology known to men, against a people who do NOT own one single tank, one single plane, one single helicopter, nor one single war ship, and not even a recognise army to say the least. What we have is a classic school yard bully scenario, where the oppressor if we are let to believe is the victim, and the oppressed is the bully. To add salt to injury, the terrorist state of Israel is backed by one, the EU, 2nd the only empire on the planet, capped with financial assistance, weapon assistance, economical assistance and Political assistance, and you have the cojones to called Hamas cowards???
Your third statement is irrelevant, first, because of the lack of context, and 2nd because your whole post is full of hyperbole…… I think there will comes a time when you'll realised that you cannot beat a dead horse any longer, when you cannot get blood from a stone, and that the golden hen has given all that she can give. My suggestion, burn that useless "Hasbara Handbook" it has become obsolete…….

Of course I had reviewed my message before posting. :)
I used the words 'ignorant idiots" although the term is somewhat redundant. I also used the word agenda. The difference between ignorant idiots and ignorant idiots with agenda is that the former are unaware or ignore the facts, the latter know the facts, but chose to twist them to fit their agenda. In any case, both groups are totally foreign to true facts. You pick which group you belong too and I am going to prove by clear and convincing evidence that you are either the former or the latter.
Now to respond to your post:
I claim that Iran and Palestinians reject the right of Israel to exist. You say it is misleading and lies. However, you don’t point exactly which is misleading and which is lies and the reason is: your above statement is plain false. Let’s take a look. Palestinians are governed by two entities: Hamas (in Gaza) and Palestinian Authority (in West Bank). Let’s start with Hamas.
This is a quote from Hamas Chart/Platform: “Israel will rise and will remain erect until Islam eliminates it as it had eliminated its predecessors.” They say so in the first paragraph. Let’s bring another quote from Hamas’s Chart: “Peaceful Solutions, [Peace] Initiatives and International Conferences. [Peace] initiatives, the so-called peaceful solutions, and the international conferences to resolve the Palestinian problem, are all contrary to the beliefs of the Islamic Resistance Movement. For renouncing any part of Palestine means renouncing part of the religion.” In their own words. Clear enough?
Now let’s take a look at the Palestinian Authority. Here is Adli Sadeq, the Ambassador of PA to India in November 2011: “They [Israelis] have a common mistake or misconception by which they fool themselves, assuming that Fatah accepts them and recognizes the right of their state to exist, and that it is Hamas alone that loathes them and does not recognize the right of this state to exist. They ignore the fact that this state, based on a fabricated [Zionist] enterprise, never had any shred of a right to exist." (Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, November 26, 2011). In their own words. Clear enough?
Now, let’s look at your statement that Israel demands that Palestinians would recognize it as a home for Jews. First, the statement itself is pure falsity as Israel has never made any such demands. Second, Israel is home for citizens of Israel among which there are other ethnic groups including Arabs. And third of all, see Palestinian’s own statements that I quoted above. They do not recognize Israel as a State no matter who lives there. Again, clear enough.
Second, it is of no relevance to one State, when another State invites any people(s) to be a part of that State. Israel can invite Japanese or whomever. Palestinians can invite Russians or Americans to be part of their State. It is within their rights. That takes care of your false argument about Israel as home for the Jews.
Third, you claim that to have a war one must have two equal armies. That’s just nonsense and another falsity. Just look at world history. Also, educate yourself and look up the definition of war, which is roughly a “struggle or competition between opposing forces or for a particular end.”
And finally a comment on your yet another non-fact/falsity/nonsense: “golden hen has given all that she can give.” In my humble view, when it comes to Palestinians, iI would rather use the term killer bees instead of “golden hen”… again to be closer to reality. But that is just my humble view.
And here is why I call you an ignorant idiot: First, you make up a falsity, and then argue with that falsity while completely ignoring clear facts.
Please educate yourself before sounding like an ignorant idiot. Also, when I call you ignorant, I am not trying to insult, just stating the obvious.

Regarding your last sentence: According to Genesis, the first "Arab" and the first "Jew" were half-brothers, born to Abraham to two different mothers. Sarah, the 80-yr-old mother of Isaac, was considered too old to have a child, and Abraham banged his concubine, Hagar, resulting in his firstborn, Ishmael. Ishmael was the first Arab. Isaac was the first Jew. They never got along.

Israel SHOULDNT exist. I'm tired of American officials and plenty of people backing Israel simply because the people fighting them are Arab. Since 1949, 8000 Palestinians have been killed by Israel and 1500 Israelis have been killed by the Palestinians. These are civilian statistics, and Israel has caused almost 4 times the amount of death against innocent civilians. 1620 of the Palestinians were UNDER 18! Compared to 142 Israelis.

Alex. The UN does not recognize states. States are recognized by other states. In 1947 the UN recommended the partition of the then Palestine into a Jewish State and an Arab State. The Jewish representatives accepted the plan, and when British rule ended declared their state which was recognized by other states. THE LEGAL DECLARED AND RECOGNIZED borders of Israel are those in the Partition Plan. AT THE TIME OF THE DECLARATION they were ALREADY occupying Palestinian territory outside their legal borders, particularly Jerusalem (ALL OF WHICH is outside the legal borders of Israel). THEY ARE NOW OCCUPYING ALL OF PALESTINE outside their legal borders.

Ask Egypt, Syria, Jordan why they wanted rid of them!!! Israel did not start any wars – but it surely knows how to finish them. All Israel has asked for time and again is to live peacefully with its neighbours. But the Dogs of Hell only want Israel's demise. And the most telling part of your referenced article is this paragraph:
"Senior Hamas officials, including the group's politburo chief Khaled Mashaal and Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, recently reiterated that they would not give in to pressures and budgets and would not change the movement's principles, according to which Hamas does not recognize Israel."
I suspect that the "movement's principles" that they won't change still include the eradication of Israel, not a very hopeful indication of willingness to negotiate a peace.

You do realise ofcourse that when you do boycott all of Israel's goods it will be the Palestinians in the West Bank who will suffer the most from being fired from jobs in Israeli companies. So go ahead, you will be hurting the very people you fight for. Rather spend your energies making peace between the two peoples. The Palestinians don't need any more do-gooders who really do not understand too much of the realities on the ground. It is much too easy to read articles like this one above, and make up your mind from media and not from experience. Welcome to Israel in peace, salaam and shalom.
