Washington’s Brazen Hypocrisy

Over at the Lew Rockwell blog, Michael Rozeff makes a fine point [1] on Washington’s skyrocketing hypocrisy:

Obama supports a UN treaty on what a US official terms “illicit arms trafficking and proliferation [2]“. At the same time, the US and ally Saudi Arabia are sending heavier arms into Syria [3].

How could the government be so brazenly hypocritical? you might ask. George Orwell explains [4] the logic of nationalism:

Actions are held to be good or bad, not on their own merits, but according to who does them, and there is almost no kind of outrage — torture, the use of hostages, forced labor, mass deportations, imprisonment without trial, forgery, assassination, the bombing of civilians — which does not change its moral color when it is committed by “our” side.
