We get a lot of letters, and, up until now, haven't had the manpower to deal with posting them, let alone answering them. But that sad state of affairs is at an end with the inauguration of this "Backtalk" column, edited by Sam Koritz. Please send your letters to backtalk@antiwar.com. Letters may be edited for length (and coherence). Unless otherwise indicated, authors may be identified and letters may be reproduced in full.

"Bratty" Opinion

I enjoyed the article "Go, Makiko Go!" …As a US Navy brat, I do not think that servicemen who rape women and girls in their duty stations should go unpunished. This is one major reason why I believe that Japan should re-arm. American servicemen who violate standards of decency should be severely punished and serve their prison time inside of foreign jails!

As for the new Foreign Minister of Japan, she has told the truth about our current president. I hope that many Japanese people will support her and re-embrace nationalist pride…

Who Saved Who? Part III

From Dan W.'s June 4th email ["Who Saved Who? Part II"]:

"Russia had no hand in 'saving' the 'free world.' They saved their own skin, and then were handed a huge chunk of Europe courtesy of the U.S. military and Roosevelt-Truman."

Germany used ~85% of their land and air military resources to fight on the eastern front. For every 100 Germans lost, 88 perished fighting the Russians and their immediate allies. Russia had 480 divisions fighting Hitler, and the US had 16 divisions. It was American money and Russian blood that destroyed the Nazis.

McCain Resembles You-Know-Who

[Justin Raimondo's column, "McCain's Mutiny" provides] a good description of McCain's and Kristol's political program. But where is a comparison to Hitler's and Alfred Rosenberg's [program]? It appears that there are more than 1/2 dozen parallel "ideas" that these guys share, especially regarding wars, national greatness, etc. – virtually on the level of plagiarism. McCain's well-reported psychological instability and participation in a losing war does remind one of the similar features in Hitler's profile.
