Scott Horton Interviews Rep. Ron Paul

March 6th, 2008

Rep. Ron Paul M.D., congressman representing district 14 on the Texas gulf coast and champion of human liberty, discusses the relative powers of the president, congress and UN over U.S. foreign policy, his recent vote against a resolution condemning one side in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the counter-productive nature of American foreign policy in fighting al Qaeda terrorism and his upcoming “no” votes on warrantless wiretapping and immunity for the telecoms.

MP3 here. (10:04)

Dr. Ron Paul is a Republican member of Congress from Texas.

It is such a shame that this man will not be our president. This country desperately needs someone with his wisdom and candor, not to mention one with his knowledge of why we find ourselves in this fiscal and monetary mess.

But Americans are too ignorant to realize this. They want the proverbial free lunch. They want the goodies paid for by someone else. Evidently they think the incessant warfare and domestic police state tactics are dandy too. It’s embarrassing.

The remaining candidates? They don’t mention balanced budgets. Constitutional limits on power? Please. Monetary policy? Hah! Non-intervention? That would mean less power for them, so it’s never even considered.

Hold on, folks. It’s going to be a bumpy ride.

  2. LoyalToRonPaul Says:

How dare you Anti-War.com people interview Ron Paul while Justin Raimondo just declared his love for Obama!!! Obama the Warmonger, clone like all the rest of the puppets. You’re all a bunch of hypocrites. You’re two-timers.

  3. Jen Says:

Thanks for putting this interview up. Ron Paul is so principled and intelligent, it’s a shame the tv news heads will never hear interviews like this.

Anyhow, nice job, I’ve bookmarked your site.

    Jenny

  4. Scott Horton Says:

    Jen,

    Thanks and you’re welcome.

Dr. Paul’s Antiwar.com archives dating back to early 2002 are available here:

  5. Stefan Says:

Calm down and consider: it is only Justin Raimondo, not Scott Horton or the others and Justin clearly said it is a one-issue (antiwar) only. Susan Einsenhower has endorsed Obama.
Obama with his charisma and limited experience is like a blanc cheque: many diverse people read anything they want into him. Obama’s strategist and himself saw clearly the effectiveness with themes like “hope” and “change” with no real contents. I think Justin has to consider who Obama’s major foreign policy adviser is: he is worse than the neocons. He may not invade Iran and may pull out of Iraq (did say he will pre-emptive strike Pakistan though), but the real fight ZB wants to pick is with Russia and China, which is most dangerous. Obama knows he does not have the foreign and other policy experience, therefore he is subject to advice and therefore ZB knows he is the perfect candidate to “manipulate”, just like the neocons. know how to control Bush, Cheney and McCain, the unholy trinity..
Also: if you heard Paul’s video AND listened to two campaign audio interviews and read between the lines, you will know that like before Dr. Paul had no strong position at the nomination, but it is also not reduced to no chance either, there is always a “slingshot” chance still present, which could improve within the next few weeks and months with a few things happening.

  6. Stefan Says:

    Scott: great job indeed.
Would you be interested in doing an interview with a person who was involved with naval intelligence and has some specialized info also about the ineptness of the US govt with regard to 9/11 (as Dr. Paul also underlines)? This person was and is very much against the war in Iraq from the start. He has been to many countries and wide experience. The US is very vulnerable for more attacks (as we all know, with blowback etc.) and container and port security is very much a weak point still. Let me know… stefan888 at gmail dot com

Thanks and continue your good work
    Stefan

  7. LoyalToRonPaul Says:

You’re right, Stefan, and here’s an article by Justin Raimondo criticizing Obama’s ‘war stance’ ‘hawkishness’, yet he turns around and endorses him — sheesh….

I think the domain name for this website should be confiscated.

  8. Mechanized Says:

Frankly LoyalToRonPaul, Justin Raimondo’s current political affinity for Obama is quite puzzling. Unfortunately, it appears his emotion–that obviously being desperation–are dominant over his reason in this particular instance in relation to this issue. Obama–as with all of his ilk outside of Ron Paul–is an establishment politician.

Very strange, not to mention disappointing, indeed.

  9. Stefan Says:

I read Raimondo has in the past voted for Buchanan and Nader. He is obviously a one issue guy if he does not get his perfect candidate and there is indeed some emotion in his open letter. Emotion is important and is driving us, but one should not let emotion blind your rational thinking also….
We always knew Paul had say a less than 50% chance of getting the nomination, based on
the fact that 1/3 of Republicans are against the war, so had some limit. Yet there is still a “slingshot” opportunity for Paul to get the nomination. There are some interesting parallels between Obama and Paul and I have read and heard some Obama supporters has Paul as their second choice (above CLinton), apart from he fact that several initial Obama supporters went over to Ron Paul. If Paul is on the ballot box in November, Raimondo will vote for him, also if Obama also happen to be on that box.The situation with is still very fluid IMHO: McCain’s anger - as was seen again during the past day or so - and also his statement during an earlier debate that there is no recession, now he acknowledge it etc. will come and haunt him. The GOP establishment and/or many of the delegates may have to reconsider… At http://www.conservativehq.com you can read about efforts from the side of Newt Ginrich and Rush Limbaugh to support another solution, there are rumors that Karl Rove wants Romney in etc. It is IMHO very good that Romney has not only stopped his campaign, but also endorsed McCain, as many conservatives who supported him are very much disappointed with this. If he wants to resurrect his bid, he will not be very credible. IMHO, if Romney was still in the race and it would lead to a brokered convention, Ron paul with a possible third or forth position among the candidates would not necessarily be the kingmaker at all. With Paul still staying in the race, he can get more delegates and greater performance in the remaining states.
The “stalemate” situation with the Democrats also favors Paul’s chances in getting the nomination, as either of the tow candidates do not seem to be able to get 2025 pledged delegates before the DNC, and they may get Al Gore as kingmaker…or then be forced with a Obama/Clinton or Clinton/Obama ticket.

Look how Justin criticized Obama as being a Warmonger, like all the rest in the above article, and now Justin turns around and loves Obama????

  12. peace Says:

It is not that Justin endorsed Obama. My understanding is that he greatly prefers him over Clinton and McCain.

  13. Poor Richard Says:

    Scott,

Thank you for your consistently relevant, incisive, and deep excursions into the heart of American politics and foreign policy. One urgent topic which has been discussed but which seems to be on the back burner, though….

Perhaps you could help raise some consciousness here and/or delve into this deeper. Please see the following link:

    http://www.indexmundi.com/united_states/debt_external.html

You can get some interesting statistics from this and similar sites. For example:

External debt per capita in US: $30,000 USD
External debt per capita in Mexico: $1,700 USD

The average Mexican earns $10,000 US per year, while the average American earns $43,000 per year. US residents portion of the external debt is around 73% of his yearly earnings, while the same percentage for the Mexican resident is 17%.

Sadly, the implications for this mess is that the country is being pushed into bankruptcy and the entire nation, from the pundits and policy wonks, to congress members (excluding Dr. Paul) to the common citizen, do not realize that it is headed straight for the cliff.

  14. Chris Baker Says:

    Scott,

You said you voted. But you did you go to your precinct caucus.

  15. Scott Says:

No, ‘fraid not. I had to work.

Just listening to ROn Paul speak, you know he is more knowledgable than Hillary, Barack and John McCain combined.

It is sad that Ron Paul was not taken seriously during the primaries. The media had to practically be force to talk about him because the supporters did everything they could to create publicity with money bombs and what not.

Now they have his book at number 1 on amazon. It’s amazing!
