He is a liar and a terrorist and should have been removed from office long ago. But, as you point out, the American public has tolerated his excesses. The majority of my fellow citizens have ignored the horrors we have perpetrated in Iraq, the worst ongoing crime against humanity since the Holocaust. We are at fault, we all share in the blame for this. But America, as a nation, will never face the truth about itself. Everything can be justified, and what cannot be justified will be ignored. One of these days, we are going to catch some blowback that will make 9/11 look like a Girl Scout tea party (which it already does to the average Iraqi citizen), and we will have no one to blame but ourselves. How can an informed president order the violation of the sovereingty of Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria in just two terms of office. He should be brought to trial at the International War Crimes tribunal. You can be sure that when he violates Canadian sovereignty, I will bear whatever arms they give me to defend our soil. Canadians are usually on good terms with their near neighbors to the south because we used to respect common international laws. But now that American citizens tolerate their president's actions, we might have to remove you from our list of friends. I don't wish to overlook the many mistakes, abuses and excesses of Saddam's government, but before the US invasion Shi'i and Sunni Arabs (and Sunni Kurds, for that matter) were free to live in integrated neighborhoods, intermarry, and thrive most of the time in an orderly society that protected their basic rights and equality. Thanks to the US invasion and the unleashing of Iranian and other Islamist influences, tens of thousands of Iraqis have been killed by sectarian death squads, millions have fled their homes, open cultured Baghdad has lost much of its population and has been carved-up by concrete security barriers into separate ghettos, the Arab society has effectively been lobotomized, the position of women in the country has been degraded, most of the ancient Christian community is gone, and what was potentially the most progressive, wealthy, secular and strong Arab state has been transformed - perhaps permanently - into the exact opposite of its potential. If I didn't know better, it would remind me of what western imperialists and Zionists have accomplished in Palestine and Lebanon.
