A volunteer force sounds warm and fuzzy until you scratch the surface. First, is it really going to be voluntary? Name a voluntary government program. I can't think of one. If people wanted to achieve something through voluntary means, there wouldn't be a need for government involvement.

Second, the crew of "volunteers" will undoubtedly require a massive bureaucracy to manage it, populated by high priced paper-pushers and assorted Obama parasites and hangers-on. Who pays for their salaries and benefits, and how is this revenue generated? Confiscating people's property to pay for feel-good programs, no matter how well intended, is still immoral.

Oh, and by the way, the "infrastructure" doesn't fall from the skies like manna. That has to be paid for too. Where does this money come from?

As for unemployment, I don't know how this make-work program differs in the slightest from the absurd New Deal failures of the 1930s. Taking desperately needed capital from the private sector during an economic correction is a really stupid idea, which pretty much explains why they'll try it.

The idea of a volunteer force to rebuild infrastructure and restore environments is a good one. Especially when there is large-scale unemployment, young people really need an alternative to enlisting in the military.
Of course, if this force is really going to be paramilitary or "homeland security," that would be very bad. I think that's where we should focus on this issue.

Thank you for pointing the spotlight at Jane Harman, who is elsewhere being eclipsed by discussion of Nosferatu Emanuel. She came to my attention when she labeled Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth a terrorist organization. She and Rahm and the rest are determined to turn the United States into Gaza writ large.
