There's a sort of false memory that just a few decades ago, the US was totally "Christian" (undefined) and everything was ipsy-pipsy, with none of our familiar social ills. That's far from the case, of course. All the familiar crimes and sins have always flourished, and every generation of born-again preachers has ranted in the same way about moral decline, blah, blah, blah. Check out the sermons from any time or place in the last 2000 years.
