Former UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter discusses the overblown “gotcha” revelation of the “secret” Iranian nuclear facility, how the wonkish debate over IAEA Additional Protocol minutiae turned into accusations that Iran is building nukes, the secret Saudi, U.K. and U.S. funding of opposition candidates in the Iranian election and the likely disastrous results of a war with Iran.

MP3 here. (49:08)

Scott Ritter is a former Marine Corps intelligence officer and a United Nations weapons inspector in Iraq. He writes for truthdig.com and is the author of numerous books, including Waging Peace: The Art of War for the Antiwar Movement and Target Iran: The Truth About the White House’s Plans for Regime Change.

  5. It's so great to hear somebody point out that this is an Israeli-based threat, and to bring in the Saudis as well. This is a crucial point which is perennially and purposefully omitted on the Left. Seeing its rationales for keeping Palestine under martial law totally derailed, the Israelis – especially Netanyahu – have now said they won't negotiate with Palestinians until ALL threats to Israeli 'survival' (in quotes because what the hell does that even mean in 2009?) are removed. It sucks for the Palestinians and it's very disturbing to see the Obama administration continue to use Israel's script re Iran.

  6. Correct, the hypocrisy is astounding. Israel has the only nukes in the area and will not submit to inspections by anyone but Iran is guilty until proven innocent. The US is using the same "WMD" model that it used to demonize Iraq and justify its illegal invasion. The American press is an arm of the government and has been for decades. The average American is too dimwitted to be able to sort through this and come to a locgical conclusion… that is why the populace continues to elect & allow the same people to steal their money in order to fund their war adventures and bail out their rich friends on WS.

  7. Always good to hear Scott Ritter's crystal clear analysis.

Very good interview and very good show this time

  8. Subtle choice of intro music – don't know how many would recognize "In a Persian Market".
Best part of the interview is near the end where Ritter lays out the conspiracy to disrupt the Iranian elections.

  9. If America doesn't wake up soon and discover that they cannot go on spending billiions of dollars on as many wars as they can conceive of, they will wake up one morning with the tax collector at their door. What would it be like for the USA to declare bankruptcy to the rest of the world? The Chinese and the Middle East oil countries who hold much of the debt would be a little tiffed, to say the least. And as for the surpluses in the various government funds that have been raided, their intended purposes would go down the drain. Let's pay as we go if we have to go to war.

  11. The US political process has been hijacked by a foreign power, employing agents of foreign influence from AIPAC to Orly Taitz, using the leverage provided by dual citizenship, who have made themselves immune from criticism hiding behind the holocaust (cheapening it) and using the anti-semtitic meme to intimidate into silence just criticism…all to undermine the American system of government, if need be, to pursue the agenda of a power (Israel) whose goals can be completely anethma to American national and economic security, using deception and false-flag terror, if needed, ultimately leading to the destruction of the very foundation of the United States Republic, and subordinating its people to a small zionist, racist cabal that looks upon all gentiles as lesser humans.

  13. Always good to hear from Scott Ritter. His extensive knowledge is very welcome.
I wish more people heard him about this..

  14. The U.S. Government all in an uproar over a technical violation…hmmm…seems our invasions and occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan rest on glossing over a technical violationl – DECLARATION OF WAR BY CONGRESS!

It is so apparent that the U.S. Government is suffering from being a bully for so long. It is a paranoid freak show of incestuous relationships and the attendant hemophilia is beginning to show.

I say good riddance to the criminal enterprise.

  17. One the best and more on focus interviews so far.. a real eyeopener!!!

  18. Wow, thanks for the Ritter interview. Haven't listened yet but I bet it's good.

Ritter is a true hero. Good job antiwar!

  19. Incredible interview. I was in shock by the amount of coverage that Rachel Maddow, Keith Olbermann etc were giving the Iran elections and protest. Sure seemed choreographed . hell the anti invasion marches did not get anything close to this kind of attention.

"Iran has not threatened us at all" "yet we are speaking about a war"

  20. ditto. folks should spread this one far and wide

  22. Don't know about Scott Ritter's view's on Iran's nukes. I'm inclined to believe them. But I question his knowledge of Iran's domestic politics.
He has one Gerald or Jerald or something Cohen spending $60,000,000 on introducing Iranians to Twitter (as if Iranians, who are the most connected people in the Middle East outside of Israel and Turkey, need American help on this!). I remember nothing about this and could find nothing about this online. There was a Jerad Cohen who was responsible for getting Twitter to reschedule its overhaul shut-down so Iranian kids could communicate after the election. Is this the Cohen that Mr. Ritter means?
It is laughable to say that only 10,000 rich kids came out after the elections to protest. http://www.risefallandsurvival.org/iran_protest_r
    Excuse me? 10,000?!
I'd like to know his source about the $100,000,000 (I'm quoting from memory) poured by Saudi Arabia into the Iranian elections. This is the first I've heard about it. Yes, the Saudis would've been pleased to be rid of Ahmadinejad, but their impact on the elections were probably pretty minimal. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jamal-dajani/saudi-… for example.
There's lots more, but this will suffice for now. I just get a strong feeling that Ritter does not really know much about Iran and is covering this up with bluster and posturing.

  25. I read that two Republican senators have called for the USA to attack Iran, and not wait for Israel. Most of the American people do not want this, and should not be blamed.

I also blame the Democrats in Congress, because even the founder of its progressive caucus, Dennis Kucinich, asked all his supporters to vote for Barack Obama in the primaries, although BO had already called for attacking Pakistan and continuing wih Afghanistan. Then when it comes to November, what choices do we have, when even the struggling third parties appear to be flooundering. Our republic has fallen.

  26. As a member of Comcast Forum I was using URL for 'dissentradio..bla-bal 09-09-29-ritter (mp3) suggesting people listen to audio and learn how U$ Corp-Gov and U$ Corp-Media were lying continiously about Iran (and a million other things).

Shortly afterward the URL no longer worked, and I am still tracking down audio to embed within my web pages. That is what I am accomplishing here and now.

By the way, I have a fairly good article (on line) regarding the psyop-lies being broadcast and reported to American citizens about this Iran 'fixed election' in 2009: http://rtpricetag.home.comcast.net/~rtpricetag/Ir

  30. On Wednesday, January 22, 2003, in an interview with CNN, Scott Ritter confirmed he was arrested in 2001 and charged with a misdemeanor after allegedly communicating with an undercover officer posing as a 16-year-old girl. According to a source close to the investigation and interviewed by CNN, Ritter reportedly communicated with who he thought was a teenage girl in an Internet chat room and arranged to meet her at a Burger King in Colonie, NY, a suburb of Albany, so she could witness him masturbating. Ritter was charged with "attempted endangerment of the welfare of a child," a Class B misdemeanor. It was also reported that Ritter was also involved in an earlier incident in April 2001 after communicating with an undercover officer posing as a 14-year-old. <ref>[http://www.cnn.com/2003/US/01/22/ritter.arrest/ "Ex-arms inspector, war foe Ritter confirms 2001 arrest] ''CNN''.</ref>

  31. While Ritter was claimed that the Albany County District Attorney's Office was engaged in the illegal act of releasing sealed documents, to date, however, Ritter has never presented any evidence to substantiate those charges. Furthermore, Ritter's case was improperly disposed of in Ritter's favor by veteran Albany County Assistant District Attorney Cynthia Preiser without the knowledge of Albany District Attorney Paul Clyne, who fired Preiser upon learning of her actions.

  32. Scott Ritter is a true american pervert. He got busted again in Jan. 2010 for being a pervert on the Internet and masturbating in front of what he thought was a15 year old girl. Each time he's been busted, it's been because he thought he was hooking up with a teenage girl. How many REAL victims do you think he has?

I'm was against the war, but I don't need a pervert like Scott Ritter on my side. All you people who posted on this thread knew what he did and yet like amoral cowards you continue to support him

The anti-war movement doesn't need Scott Ritter or any of his pathetic little amoral supporters and fans.
