There has never been an actual "Leftist" President. Not a single American President would be viewed as a Leftist in Western Europe, but only by the radical rightwingers of the USA. Obama has changed nothing but a small portion of Bush's rhetoric. No actual American Leftist would ever view any of our Presidents as a fellow traveler… they were/are all about maintaining the status quo… FDR implemented "leftist" programs to prevent absolute disaster and the danger of real hard-left elements rising to power on a wave of blood.

Charlie, I trust that you're referring to the rank-and-file left. It certainly doesn't apply to those who've held the reins of power who claimed to come from the left. Woodrow Wilson? FDR? Truman? LBJ? Clinton? Obama? Not to mention countless leftists in Congress that were either cheerleading or tacitly accepting every war, tax or regulation that came down the pike. That doesn't sound like a track record for peace and individual liberty. Am I missing something?

According to Daniel Ellsberg the Pentagon´s doctrine of First-Strike Capability has caused the Russians to adopt Launch On Warning. We may get Nuclear Winter by mistake because of the Normal Lunatics in the Pentagon. The Pentagon has been aiming at achieving a First-Strike Capability since the days of Weinberger, at least. Why ? Probably because of suicidal madness. Bob Aldridge-www.plrc.org-resigned for that reason.

The "economic consequenses" of trying to bully the world into accepting the American "our way or the highway" approach are already coming home to roost. Things are starting to unravel on the West and we may not have the time to unite the nation before we start a major war with some of the preceived "enemy" who will be demonized for "trying to destroy our economy". Of course our own government and their cronies in high finance will never take the blame and most of the American people will never figure out that they were sold out so it wall fall upon those who have the wisdom to see that the West is self destructing and are trying to save their own economies from going down with ours... to suffer the wrath of a dying empire.
