David Swanson, author of Daybreak: Undoing the Imperial Presidency and Forming a More Perfect Union, discusses the myth of Constitutionally-derived presidential supremacy in foreign affairs, why Congress prefers acting like an executive advisory committee instead of a co-equal branch of government, the Tenth Amendment‘s losing battle against the Commerce Clause, progress in civil and foreign court cases against Bush administration crimes that Obama steadfastly ignores, the neglected subpoena and impeachment powers of Congress and the public pressure that is the driving force behind the “Audit the Fed” amendment.

  1. Scott, stop interrupting your guests all the time, get off your high horse, and try to see things a bit less basically – it's not all binary…

  2. Scott, stay on the horse. Please.

  3. I love Scott. He’s a hero!

  4. I see a weakness in David's argument. His argument tries to reconstruct the balance between the three branches of government, yet fails to note that all three branches of government, and four branches, if you include the corporate media, have been corrupted by class forces and especially class ideology.

So why does it matter if Congress gets its power back, only to agree with all corporate, class interests, including the President, which is why Congress has become irrelevant, as well as democracy. SO HOW ABOUT IDEOLOGY, SOCIAL IDEOLOGY….IDEOLOGY COUNTS, BUT NOT CLASS/IMPERIAL IDEOLOGY.

What we need is our own social agenda, social reforms, social party, social ideology to challange all class politicians betraying, corrupting all three branches.

  5. Many years ago the secretary of defense Weinberger stated, "The US aims to achieve a First-Strike Capability". And the Pentagon aims to achieve a disarming capability even today – PRETENDING THAT NUCLEAR WINTER ISN´T A PROBLEM. One hundred nuclear explosions would produce Nuclear Winter. What are the other bombs for ? Trident missile engineer Bob Aldridge-http://www.plrc.org-realized that a First-Strike Capability is suicidal and resigned.

  6. On the morning of 9/11 more than 100 million dollars were transfered from WTC to foreign accounts. A representative of the German computer firm working in WTC went to New York and he managed to obtain the hard disk. On German TV a representative of the German computer firm confirmed their findings but he refused to comment on the accounts to where the money had gone and further he said that his company wouldn´t make any more comments whatsoever on the matter. But he did say that the transaction indicated foreknowledge of the attack. My own guess is that the money went to some account in Tel Aviv. After the research by Niels Harrit, Uni of Copenhagen, and 8 more scientists it´s a scientific fact that nano-thermite was used to take down the three towers. What about an interview with Niels Harrit, Uni of Copenhagen ? Science is science – or what ?

  7. Funny how Mr. Swanson extolls the virtues of adhering to the Constitution, yet advocates government funding of elections, infrastructure, "green" industry, health care, all of which are in violation of the 10th amendment.

  8. Frank's a bit cranky this morning. Keep up the great work, Scott.

  9. But scientists can easily be as nutty or as bigoted as anyone else. Think about all the Nazi Egyptologists, anthropologists, etc. The Commie ones, too.

  10. Railroads, windmills, solar water heaters are banned by the 10th amendment? That's news to me!

  11. As Livy said a long time ago, we can endure neither our vices nor their correction.

  12. But be more succinct in your speech.
