Christopher Manion, columnist for the weekly Catholic newspaper The Wanderer, discusses the two conflicting currents within the Conservative momement, the marked difference between Sarah Palin’s carefully crafted image and her actual policy positions, the rotten core of the GOP that is best left to the next generation to fix, the public’s misguided reliance on symbolism to categorize political figures and why neoconservatives are more correctly called neoliberals.

  1. The fact that Zionist warmonger Bill Kristol backs Palin is all you need to know about her, what's wrong with the GOP in particular, and America in general.

  2. Mr. Manion sounds like a he wants a theocratic state where His church is more powerful than the Government. He also tries make the case that the reason the "leftist Media" jumps all over Palin is because they are so embarrassed of John Edwards that they are trying to Divert attention from him?
What kinda of kook is this guy? Really? Sara Palin is a freaking dim wit nut job with a following that resembles the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei and he thinks John Edwards is an embarrassment?
Scott,I love your show and listen very often but I think you need to step up challenge some of the things your guests say. There is something very unsettling about some of what this Mr. Manion glossed over. Maybe I'm the nut job, but this gentleman sounded to me much closer to a theocratic-fascist than any Libertarian.

  3. The "neocons" – why does the Press NOT refer to them as the "Zionists Neocons" that they are? – oops, I forget that the Press in America is controlled by the Zionists! William Kristol and ALL of the Zionist TRAITORS to the U.S. should be put on a leaky boat and sent to Israel. Sarah Plain is about as dumb as a person can be with NO clue to anything. Unless America rids itself of the Zionist TRAITORS' control of America – then the country is doomed!

  4. I don't understand Mr. Manion. He says he was a keen supporter of Goldwater, but has no time for Palin. Another supporter of Goldwater was Ronald Reagan and the first time I heard the term 'neo-conservative' was in an article printed in 1980 which was all about various former Democrat intellectuals who for one reason or another were now in the Reagan camp. There was never anything 'libertarian', 'anti-imperialist ' or 'small government' about Reagan. Palin simply carries on where those two left off and arouses similar feelings among both admirers and critics.

  5. So does Mr. Manion know nothing of the libertarian Left/anarchists/etc. ? That would seem to contradict his sentiments about Christianity and limited government. Actually, so would the theocratic and monarchical history of Europe.

  6. Manion sums up Sarah Palin pretty well, I'd say.

To be sure, Palin's rifle-totin', moose-huntin' image is based on fact. She and her husband are outdoors, hard-working people (commercial fishermen). She's no Eastern Establishment type with a trust fund in the bank, and Roman numerals after the name. In short, she's the kind that Joe Sixpack, that beer-swiggin', beans-and-weiners-eatin' denizen of the loading dock can relate to.

Then again, to all appearances she's an imperialistic, warmongering, Israel-first type–i.e., the neocon type. That's bad–very bad.

  7. When candidate A (republican) and candidate B (Democrat) both pledge their allegiance to "Israeli security" before AIPAC you know all you need to know.

  8. Read the book, American Holocaust, by David Stannard. That will tell you all that you need to know about the Catholic Church and its role in the conquest of the “New World”… They “saved” a lot of souls during that episode.

  9. Great interview! Props to Christopher Manion, right on about Palin. I'll have to read up on him more.

  10. YOU ARE RIGHT, BY GOD, THIS NATION WOULD BE DESTROYED IF MANNION HAD HIS WAY…CAN'T STAND THE MORALITY, CAN YOU BUB. NOW I'LL ALLOW YOU TO GO BACK TO YOUR PLAYPEN WHERE YOU CAN AGAIN CONTEMPLATE YOUR NAVEL JACKASS.
