The Other Scott Horton (no relation), international human rights lawyer, professor and contributing editor at Harper’s magazine, discusses the journalists attempting to rebut his Guantanamo “suicides” expose, the strong resemblance of Joe Carter‘s critiques to those of a Department of Defense public affairs officer, the hassle of dealing with straw man arguments, more evidence that Camp “No” does indeed exist, the ease of controlling the flow of information within a secure military installation and how government “conspiracies” are often nothing more than staying “on message.”

The other Scott Horton is a Contributing Editor for Harper’s magazine where he writes the No Comment blog. A New York attorney known for his work in emerging markets and international law, especially human rights law and the law of armed conflict, Horton lectures at Columbia Law School. A life-long human rights advocate, Scott served as counsel to Andrei Sakharov and Elena Bonner, among other activists in the former Soviet Union.

He is a co-founder of the American University in Central Asia, and has been involved in some of the most significant foreign investment projects in the Central Eurasian region. Scott recently led a number of studies of abuse issues associated with the conduct of the war on terror for the New York City Bar Association, where he has chaired several committees, including, most recently, the Committee on International Law. He is also a member of the board of the National Institute of Military Justice, the Andrei Sakharov Foundation, the EurasiaGroup and the American Branch of the International Law Association.

  1. Beggin’ your pardon, but the U.S. Government’s reputation for veracity is lower than a snake’s ass. This is the same government, remember, that lied us into war, that lied about torture and illegal surveillance, that keeps torture photos secret.

If you believe what the government says, then I’ve got some land in Florida I’d like to sell you.

  2. If this goes through; Scott Horton has proven how bad he is by being a 9-11 Truth Denier..In ALL the original pictures at the Pentagon there is NO wreckage of a 757, which is backed-up by eyewitness testimony and what was seen and not seen by emergency personnel on that day..AND YOU KNOW THAT..The 2nd plane hit the South Tower at 9:03, WTC6 exploded like the King David Hotel at 9:04..with Israelis with demolitions experience driving around Manhattan in White vans working for a Mossad front moving Co. We've been waterboarding the wrong people..I'm against torture but if we're going to do it to anyone it should be; Dov Zakheim, Michael S. Goff and Dominic Suter for a start,,,9-11 was a Mossad job aided by elements in the USGovt and nast SOB's like you are covering it up..

  3. Go to http://www.thetruthseeker.co.uk.com go to left margin. click on Sept 11..Read through archives..Very good articles on WTC6, also "Israel did it: All the proof in the world." That's the best web-site there is for finding the news behind the headlines over here..Also http://www.blacklistednews.com

  4. Scott Horton surmises that the three victims were killed by accident as a result of interrogators getting carried away with some extreme torture technique. How could it be that this would happen three times in a row? It would mean that after they tortured one detainee to death, they decided to try it again on the next detainee and the same thing happened again, and then again for a third time to another detainee. This is unbelievable. The only explanation is that these three men were deliberately murdered. Why? Could it be because all three of them were about to be released? That they knew too much and were subjected to such extreme torture and abuse that they had to be silenced, so they couldn't tell the world what happened to them?

  5. Keep up the pressure Scott (both Scotts)!

Anytime someone says that killing detainees is unbelievable because it's too barbaric for the U.S. military, just say, "School of the Americas."

  6. i would suggest reading the document titled "Unified Vision 2001".

freaking a rabs did not have the capability for what happened on 9/11…except filling the role of patsies.
