Larisa Alexandrovna, Managing Editor of investigative news for RawStory, discusses the lies told about the US push for war with Iraq in Karl Rove’s new book, how the Bush administration “fixed the facts” around their Iraq policy, US bellicosity on Iran that is meant to assuage Israel’s fears of a competing regional power, Russian geopolitical successes against lightweight US strategists, why purple fingers are not necessarily indicative of democracy, the media’s obsession with “balance” at the expense of presenting facts or telling the truth and the difficult task of assigning appropriate blame to the public and media for complicity in Iraq War lies.

MP3 here. (49:55)

Larisa Alexandrovna is an investigative journalist, covering mostly national security and intelligence. She is currently the Managing Editor of investigative news for the Raw Story. She is a contributor to Alternet, The Huffington Post, and other publications.

  1. People should keep in mind that Larisa Alexandrovna is one of the Chosen People. (I won't use the J- word because that will immediately get this comment blocked.) Check out her Wikipedia entry if you don't believe me:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larisa_Alexandrovna
The only reason this is important is because it seems to influence her view of events in the Middle East.

She wants us to believe that Israel is a mere colony of the US. She wants us to believe that Israel had no interest in attacking Iraq. She wants us to believe instead that Iran is the great benefiter of the invasion of Iraq. She is a gatekeeper and a spin artist.

Her biggest lie is to deny the connection between the Neocons and Israel. She wants us to blame everything on Cheney and Bush, instead of the Neocons. She wants us to believe that the Neocons were at the bottom of the hierarchy, instead of being the ones running the show.

She even tries to blame the Middle East problems on Russia. Of course she is from Ukraine, but still. She thinks Putin is the worst thing. Putin did drive out the Oligarchy from Russia. These are the same class of people that run Wall Street in the US. But Ms. Alexandrovna does not want us to make these connections.

Sorry to be the one to tell you this Scott, but you've been conned. Didn't you notice how fast talking she is and how she jumps from one topic to another. This is the modus operandi of a typical con artist. It creates confusion by bombarding the listener with more information than they can process.

From now on I won't believe anything I read in Raw Story. In fact I won't be reading Raw Story. Thanks, Scott, for exposing her hidden agenda – even if you weren't aware that you were in fact doing this.

  2. Here is some specific disinformation that Alexandrovna spreads in this interview.
    - Chalabi is a double agent of Iran. (Shouldn't that be Israel?) [~10:00]
    - She refers to the "American right wing" when she really means the Neocons.
    - Scott says let's talk about the Neocons, and she starts to talk about the CIA. [11:00]
    - "Calling the shots was Dick Cheney" (As if the Neocons were taking orders from Cheney.)
    - She tries to "skip ahead" to steer the interview to Liz Cheney, but Scott catches her. [12:00]
    - When Scott tries to talk about Neocon cabal, she steers the conversation to Iran.
    - Emphasis on cabal reporting to Cheney. [14:00]
    - Scott tries to discuss Israel fabricating intelligence. She shifts to Russians fabricating intelligence. [15:00]
    - She says it's an "intelligence laundering market" (Making argument that it's OK if Israel does it because everyone else is doing it. How many times have we heard that one before?) [16:00]
    - Scott says "Israeli's at Crawford meetings". She replies, "there were also Saudis". (Deflects Scott's point and steers the conversation away from Israeli involvement.) [17:00]
    - "Remember Israel is an ally of the United States… It's not as damning as it can sound." (Justifying Israel's involvement in US decision making in attacking Iraq.) [17:30]
    - "Israel didn't want Iraq, Israel always wanted Iran, they don't care about Iraq… Iraq was America's baby". (Getting desperate at this point. israel and AIPAC clear beat the drums for war with Iraq. I'm surprised that Scott didn't forcefully challenger her at this point.) [18:00]
    - She now attempts to shift the conversation to Afghanistan. [18:30]
    - Scott for some reason shifts to asking if Dick Cheney was Iran's "useful idiots". (Larisa eats this up because this fits right into her hidden agenda.) [19:00]
    - "Iran plays chess". (Those sneaky Iranians are controlling our foreign policy – not Israel. Somebody tell Mearsheimer he got it all wrong – it's not the Israel Lobby, it's the Iran Lobby.)
    - "There's this misconception that it was Israel that drove the US policy in Iraq, which isn't true. They were always interested in Iran." [21:30]
    - Israel is a loser in Iraq. The winners are Iran, Russia and China. (How does Iran benefit from having US bases in Iraq?) [22:00]
    - "Iraq was keeping Iran in check". (Iraq was useful to Israel when they were attacking Iran. After that they were no longer useful. She seems to forget the whole Gulf War where Iraq sent Scud missiles at Israel.) [22:30]
    - "Richard Perle doesn't work for the Israeli government" (Actually he did work for Israel. There is ample evidence of Neocons spying for the Israeli government.) [23:00]
    - Israel is a "client state" of the United States. Israel "doesn't have a lot of choices. (That is hardly the reality of the "special relationship" between the US and Israel.) [23:00]
    - Israel is "doing what it's told by it's colonial master". (It seems to me that the "colonial master" in this relationship is Israel.) [23:30]
    - "The biggest winner out of all of this is Russia." (She changes the subject again. Here comes her hidden agenda again – to attack Russia. Sadly, Scott appears to be overwhelmed and goes along with it.) [24:00]
    - "I'm vehemently anti-Putin." (Notice she's not "vehemently" anti-Likud or "vehemently" anti the Russian Oligarchy or the Russian Mob. Scott started off the interview talking about Iraq and Karl Rove and in less than thirty minutes Larisa has shifted the topic to Russia and Putin – her favorite topics. Oh well. And Russia just happens to be one of the Zionists most hated enemies.) [24:30]

  4. With America rapidly going broke Israel had better start cultivating some new friendships… You can only squeeze blood out of the Turnip for so long. They'll have to start getting direct susidies from the Rothschilds because they will no longer be able to squeeze it out of the American public.

  5. But does the Pentagon think it can avoid Nuclear Winter ? About the missiles to be deployed on ships in the Black Sea in Bulgaria and on land in Romania and Poland by 2015: "Whether on ships or land, they are still a necessary component for an unanswerable first strike", Bob Aldridge-http://www.plrc.org-.

  6. She does bring her pet issues into it. Her rants about "totalitarian" Putin and the "crazy" Tea Partiers aren't really relevant to the subject.

  7. She got off Israel at every turn.

  8. Until this interview, I had no idea the extent to which the U.S. was taking advantage of Israel and endangering that peaceful country and its wonderfl people!

  9. I agree, this interview was important because of the light it sheds on the hidden bias behind Raw Story. I also will read that with a bit more schepticism.

  10. Excellent interview, Scott! You should have Larisa Alexandrova on more often.

  11. Scott, please get more people who can talk intelligently about the influence of the Christian Zionists and the Armeggedonites on the Middle East wars, support for the Israeli government, etc. People like Rod Parsley and John Haggee are not trivial players.

  12. I was being sarcastic of course. I cannot and do not believe this intelligent woman believes the misconceptions and misperceptions she promotes and claims to embrace, which makes me wonder what her agenda really is–where is she coming from? Is she actively, seriously promoting misinformation and wrongheadedness? Or is this just the common practice in the media of avoiding obvious but incovenient, politically incorrect conclusions, e.g., avoiding saying unpleasant things about Israel. And am I making a distinction without a difference?

  13. liarissa, liarissa

the whole interview should have been conducted with skype lie detector mode turned on.

  14. Larissa was an all star when it came to exposing Bush war crimes, Bush lies, Bush torture abuses and so on. She seemed to always be giving Nancy Pelosi an easy time of it on the impeachment issue.

Watching the rawstory coverage in year one of the Obama presidency, it is clear that Larissa is in the bag for the Democratic party. Her site rarely covers the Obama war crimes in Afghanistan, refuses to cover his protecting of Bush and Cheney from torture investigations. That site is also running about 30% of its content on fluffy celebrity gossip usually involving irrelevant right wing tarts like Ann Coulter, an awful change from its past investigative reporting. There is also censorship of progressive comments that are critical of Obama. Blathering idiots from the right can say whatever they want about Obama, but rawstory is loathe to acknowledge any criticism of Obama from the anti war crowd.

They blacked out all coverage of the Kucinich peace initiative this week and censored a few of my comments that tried to bring peoples attention to it.

rawstory, selling war to Democrats since 2009, still going strong.

  15. Obama war crimes in Afghanistan? WTF, you mean fighting a gurrella war has no risks when the insurgents who blow them selves up in public places kill more people than any one else?
Where we are trying to help the Afghans to stand on their own (admittedly a herculean task)
Where if we leave or if the Afghans don't step up their country will go back to shooting women in Burquas in the back of the head on soccer fields?
Where women are not allowed to read, go to school, LEAVE their homes, obtain medical care,
    THAT AFGHANISTAN

  16. TomDem55. War crimes in Afghanistan. Many, too many to list, but here is an easy one for you.
    http://news.antiwar.com/2010/03/12/evidence-mount

One of the most cynical dishonest talking points used by war mongers is the……we're doing it for the school girls lie. That is just the latest of a long list of lies that mean nothing to the terrified little girls when the US fighter jets and drones bring death to their towns.

Massive troop escalations, massive mercenary escalations and record high numbers of drone attacks killing record high numbers of civilians in Afghanistan are the facts of year one for Bushbama. Your feel good lies are no different than the ones Bush told. Less than 1% of what the US is spending in that occupation goes to schools or families. This is a bloody war, with bloody lies from bloody liars TomDem55.

You want to know what real Afghanistan women think? Google Malalai Joya and read what this duly elected member of the Afghani parliament has to say about Americans helping school girls. She tells the truth and speaks for the girls and women of Afghanistan. Dirty trolls who use lies to shill for war are a dime a dozen.

  17. There were also millions of people in the streets trying to stop the war. There were actually over a million people at one specific demo, against the RNC meeting in New York. But as Larisa said, it wasn't covered.

  18. Maidhc Ó Cathail* highlights the key role played by 20 Zionists in taking America to war in Iraq — a war fought not for America’s interests but for Israel’s. Who's to blame for the Iraq war?
    http://sabbah.biz/mt/archives/2010/03/13/whos-to-

Everywhere, in the so-called progressive anti-war media, you can read only about the role of George W Bush, Dick Cheney, Condi Rice, Don Rumsfeld, George Tenet, etc. who are basically the Zionist assets in the Game. But you won’t hear much, if anything, about these 20 key war planners.

For those who would like to understand better the dynamics between these Chosen ones and these more prominent non-chosen war criminals, I suggest you read the introduction to Jeff Gates’s Guilt By Association, especially the section entitled Treason Hidden in Plain Sight:

  19. It's amazing that you guys have so much time and energy to waste picking on someone who has contributed so much to exposing the truth on so many subjects. Rawstory is one of the best sites out there for news that the msm is pretending to ignore.

Larisa's reporting is great and your feeble insults only embarrass yourselves.

-Keep it up Larisa and Rawstory!

  20. That damn Putin….I knew it.

  21. Exposing the truth about Bush crimes earned Larissa a strong following. Her complete and total failure to hold Obama to a comparable standard has been too extreme to be viewed as anything other than propaganda.
She shills for war, and she is talented. Selling war to rank and file Democrats requires the best manipulators and the most skilled liars. Different lies are needed than the ones that Bush used on his unwashed masses.
Most Democrats actually believe Obama is working for peace, while he wages his wars like a Bush family member. They believe this because of the slick talented liars like Larissa who withhold the truth about the Obama wars.

  22. I lost respect for her a few years before Obama, the whole Litvinenko was just obsessively nuts and it was clear then that she and her peeps let their bias get in the way of news as they do today, to the point where's they'd believe in silly fairy tales to prop up their ideology. The fact is, the whole Litvinenko obsessiveness was based on her obvious hatred of Putin and not much else. I think their feelings towards Obama effect their 'reporting' in the same way. I don't see them changing their ways any time soon, their articles are almost mockingly presented to their viewers with this underlying repetitive aggressiveness that I only find with people who are ideological zealots.

Like others have noted, they were against the war with Bush and now they'd rather pretend that DADT is the worst the U.S. military has to offer. It's pathetic really, they're just a re-cap of FOX news and MSNBC's recap of FOX news for the most part.
