Debra Sweet, National Director of World Can’t Wait, discusses why crimes under Bush are crimes under Obama, the rapidly escalating US occupation of Afghanistan and the upcoming protest scheduled during Obama’s West Point commencement address.

MP3 here. (21:27)

Debra Sweet is the National Director of The World Can’t Wait. The World Can’t Wait organizes people living in the United States to repudiate and stop the fascist direction initiated by the Bush Regime, including: the murderous, unjust and illegitimate occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan; the global “war of terror” of torture, rendition and spying; and the culture of bigotry, intolerance and greed.

This direction cannot and will not be reversed by leaders who tell us to seek common ground with fascists, religious fanatics, and empire. It can only be possible by the people building a community of resistance – an independent mass movement of people – acting in the interests of humanity to stop, and demand prosecution, of these crimes.

  1. So is Obama a war criminal? Code Pink and other's won't answer the question. Democrat wars are OK but Bush's war's weren't? Seems like the anti-war movement was really an anti-bush movement.

  2. I haven't listened to the interview yet, but the title scares me. Back in gear? Fuck putting the car in gear, they need to take that thing to the shop. I remember when the "left" was driving this car a couple of years ago. You couldn't even get on the freeway with that thing! I take back what I said about taking it to the shop, let's just get a whole new car.

  3. I listened to the interview, and I think this lady has the best of intentions. What I don't care for is this idea of trying to motivate people based on their affectation for intellectuals and celebrities, because if someone decides to perk up because they like Mark Ruffalo's hair, they most likely aren't sticking around. I remember when Nader ran in 2000, he had all these celebrities he'd trot out at his super rallies and he did pretty well in that election. Then in 2004, all those same celebrities bailed and Nader did much worse. Also, what do the signatures at the bottom of the ad do anyway? Is someone going to read the ad and think, "Hmmm, I'm not sure…wait, is that Cornel West and Bill Kuntsler's daughters? Oh shit! I'm on board! Whatever they go for, I go for!"

  4. Look what a few ignorant cookoos are doing with their tea party rants. Progressives need to move from bumper stickers and cynicism to organized action.

  5. The ignorant coos coos are on the left. The only sane antiwar people are on the right. People like Ron Paul, Walter Jones, John Duncan, Pat Buchanan, Justin Raimondo, Rand Paul, Joe Sobran. Most leftists don't know history or economics. They love the government. It makes it hard for them to oppose one of their own, like Obama.
