Matthew Rothschild, editor of The Progressive magazine, discusses the Pentagon’s Northern Command that has assigned an Army combat team to secure the U.S. in apparent contravention of Posse Comitatus, the ease by which the Executive Branch could circumvent Constitutional restrictions on declaring martial law, Halliburton-built U.S. prison camps useful for rounding up “enemy combatants” and American citizens alike and how another 9-11 (or even a failed bank bailout) could spell the end of Constitutional government.

  2. It was my experience that every stateside US Army division had assigned missions for operations against the American people. They involve securing sites such as nuclear power plants, arsenals, etc, "from the American people".

With the ever-expanding War of Terror it is most likely safe to say the operating parameters of "The Mission" has likewise grown.

  3. The entire world is the battlefield, right?

I know that some Americans appear to think that the USA is not part of "the entire world" but not all of them suffer from the same delusion.

What does that AUMF say, again? Something about "wherever they may be"?

  4. Yet another delusional alternapundit tells us, not to worry, OBAMA WON'T. Won't start a war with Iran. Won't drag lefties off to prison. This crap isn't just delusional anymore. Now that Obama's DOJ has actually already started busting down the doors of antiwar activists, it's, well, that much more delusional.

All the madman in the White House needs is an excuse. That should be obvious to anyone by now. But I guess partisanship and tribalism dies hard. Our madman-in-chief is nicer than your madman-in-chief. Thus some must continue to believe that, no matter what, OBAMA WON'T.

  5. Are we about to witness a stateside "Phoenix" assassination program? Are the drones heading for Boston and other bastians of anti-war, leftist Americans?

  6. Check out Joseph Heller's play, "We bombed in New Haven."

  7. They wouldn't use drones. They would use assassins.

  8. Posse Comitatus was subverted long long ago. Through the "War on Drugs" and the Pentagons generous gifting of weapons and even APC's to police and sheriff departments, you've seen your local stormtroopers become militarized. Toss in your returning psycho vets from Iraq and Afghanistan , lauded as heroes all the time, who then embed themselves in said organizations and you have your forces in place for whatever uprising needs to be put down. Hell..! The populace is under the delusion that these paladins in black ( just like the SS ) are there to help them. Sure they are!…. Right into a cell or the grave if need be.

  9. This guy is a Grade A dope.

  10. Watch out Canada. We know your address.

Ah come on, stop picking on Palin. She's no more likely to activate Directive 51 than anyone else.

On positive legacy of the Bush Admin is that the constitution no longer needs to be suspended.

  11. Dead on the money, MoT…We're told to worship those degenerates who are "fighting for our freedom."
The tree of liberty must be watered with the blood of patriots and tyrants…
    Jefferson, wasn't it?

  12. DHS is currently using unarmed (?) drones over the southern border with Mexico and the NE border with Canada. How come I don't feel safe in Amerika?

  13. Come on, the U.S. military couldn't wage war against other Americans. You know why? Their families live in the same neighborhoods as the rest of us.

  14. As for the Constitution, did it help the Native Americans? The Slaves? Japanese Americans during WWII? Throw the damn thing out, I sure as hell never voted for it!

  15. I would have loved to hear how Rothschild would have handled a question on the FBI rounding up the antiwar activists. I'm sure he would have found a way to blame it on Bush or Newt Gingrich or the Tea Party. "Yeah, but just imagine if McCain was president! They would have been tortured instead of just arrested."

  16. That's just about the level of drivel partisan hacks have been peddling for the last year in defense of the current administration and it's abuse of executive power and continuation of the Bush doctrine.

  17. To be more specific about the drones on the border with Canada, those drones are flying over the Indian reservations in upstate New York in an effort to crack down on…

    … contraband cigarettes.

If that flimsy rationale serves as justification to put these things in the air over American airspace, "national security concerns" ought to guarantee a cakewalk for proponents of an expansion of drone surveillance to the rest of the country.

  18. Russian military made it a point to put units from different regions of the nation into areas that they were far removed from. Even the police in SoCal live in towns and counties outside of their "employer" for this very reason.

  19. Absolutely. Like George Carlin said, "Rights aren't rights if your government can take them away"
