Grant F. Smith, director of the Institute for Research: Middle Eastern Policy in Washington, D.C., discusses Jane Harman’s resignation from Congress, amid speculation that more information on her AIPAC dealings will soon emerge; how Harman and Alberto Gonzalez avoided legal and professional sanction but suffered damaged reputations nonetheless; the down-the-memory-hole scandals of Niger uranium forgeries and the Office of Special Plans; why the juicy tidbits revealed in Steve Rosen’s dismissed lawsuit should be enough for a multi-count indictment of AIPAC; and the uber-class of people so far beyond the rule of law, they can never be held to account.

MP3 here. (20:55)

Grant F. Smith is the author of Spy Trade: How Israel’s Lobby Undermines America’s Economy, America’s Defense Line: The Justice Department’s Battle to Register the Israel Lobby as Agents of a Foreign Government and Foreign Agents: The American Israel Public Affairs Committee from the 1963 Fulbright Hearings to the 2005 Espionage Scandal. He is a frequent contributor to Radio France Internationale and Voice of America’s Foro Interamericano. Smith has also appeared on BBC News, CNN, and C-SPAN. He is currently director of the Institute for Research: Middle Eastern Policy in Washington, D.C.

  1. When will the revolution start in America ? It´s BS that the president is above the law. The law is the law and Bush and Obama are war criminals. But maybe Obama has been threatened on his life to become Bush 3 ?

  2. Today on State of the Union John McCain and Joe Lieberman are speaking. I am starting to think the two are joined someone. Joe is talking about putting a no fly zone so they cannot attack their own. Joe is talking about giving guns to the rebles. Amazing because he never state anything about the war inside of Israel. Why not at least stop arming fhe IDF. AIPAC and traitor Jane are a problem I think will disappear. The Public watchs the action in the middle east and they understand the problem is people like John McCain and Joe Lieberman. AIPAC is just a money gathering organization to fund war mongers like Mc Cain and Lieberman. THe two were active giving advice on fiasco Iraq redux. Two old fools who have killed so many.

  3. Damn straight. LIEberman, McInsane, and Harman are neocon, Israel-First scumbags. They ought to be shipped the hell to Israel–and told to stay there.

  4. When it comes to the israel question – especially crimes committed by israel and crimes committed on behalf of israel, there are only four types of american politicians. The four types are as follows:

Type 1: Politicians who are themselves israelis / Jewish (Levin, Feinstein, Lieberman, Harman, etc., etc.) or israeli sympathisers owing to close connections such as marriage and "business" (espionage).

Type 2: Politicians who willingly do the bidding of anyone who will pay them off (whores). These would be the more pragmatic politicians – a very rare condition in america.

Type 3: Politicians who believe the invisible man in the sky has "chosen" a certain group as his own and that this group must be blindly supported as it commits EVERY kind of crime (very holy, indeed). Such politicians must also believe a girl named Mary had a one-way birth canal along with a litany of other absurdities. To view a partial list of biblical absurdities, check out the following atheist link:

Type 4: Politicians who are scared that any disagreement with the israelis, or their lackeys in the american puppet regime, would lead to career ending consequences. Unfortunately, they're quite right. The Type 4 politician is almost a clear-thinker. He or she knows full well the destructive power the israel lobby can impart upon anyone who fails to toe the israeli party line. The examples of such "political cleansing" are legion. The media too, is far from safe. You're either pro-israel – or you're gone. The recent destruction of Helen Thomas is a perfect example. Within twenty-fours, a career was destroyed.
This type of politician is the most cowardly of all. At least the others can claim, albeit wrongly, that their allegiance to israel (some say 'treachery' – some say 'treason') is founded upon some sort of reason. The coward is simply afraid. Probably very few american politicians who fall squarely in the type 4 category. However, this is not reassuring, as the other types most certainly cannot be either controlled or transformed. This situation gives rise to the question; Is america capable of shrugging the israeli albatross off its neck with virtually all of its ruling class beholden to this foreign power for one reason or another. Unfortunately for america, the answer is an unequivocal; "No".

The israelis will use the americans as long as there is something to use up. America's youth will continue to be used to fight wars against israel's never-ending list of "existential threats", americans will continue to see their wealth sent to israel while their own nation willows away, and americans will continue to see the most trivial offenses prosecuted as high crimes while treason, war crimes, and crimes against humanity committed for the sake of israel will remain an untouchable realm.

The land mass still exists and many who live upon it still consider themselves americans, but an honest assessment will lead to the conclusion that america is no longer a nation. It literally has no government of its own. True, the government is still there to inflict itself upon the americans, but more is required to be a nation in the eyes of other nations. At every important juncture, the american government rules in favor of doing the bidding of israel despite what it will cost america in terms of lives, treasure, international reputation, or even the very survival of the "nation" itself. Every international move america makes must be pre-approved by, or take into consideration, a certain foreign power. Who, in the american administration, will say "No" to israel the next time something is demanded? That's right; there is no one. That's what the AIPAC Litmus test is all about.

Make an honest and sober assessment of what you have left. The land currently known as the united states is a vast and wonderful place indeed. It would be a great place for a nation.

  5. That is a very sad and troubling assessment of America today.

  7. From Gonzales' wiki: Amid several controversies and allegations of perjury before Congress, on August 27, 2007 Gonzales announced his resignation as Attorney General, effective September 17, 2007.[2][3] In August 2009, Gonzales began teaching a political science course at Texas Tech University. He will also serve as the diversity recruiter for the Texas Tech University System.
