Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) discusses his new book  Liberty Defined: 50 Essential Issues That Affect Our Freedom; abandoning the stodgy inside-the-beltway style of campaign management in favor of youtube-style ads put together by his youthful and tech savvy supporters; why increased American pessimism reflects a popular awakening to our deep economic troubles; and why we should be wary of authoritarianism in the guise of “problem solving” politicians.

Congressman Ron Paul represents Texas’s 14th district. He is the author of The Revolution: A Manifesto, A Foreign Policy of Freedom: Peace, Commerce, and Honest Friendship and End the Fed. His archived columns for Antiwar.com are here.

  1. You should have Gary Johnson on your show.

  2. When the **** is he going to say he will run! Ron Paul wasted a tremendous opportunity to continue to spread Austrian economics to thousands when he dropped out of the race in 2008. With many more months left in race and tons of free publicity he threw in the towel without realizing that the fight is not for the white house but for people's minds and thus gave up a tremendous opportunity given all the free publicity and attention he would have gotten. Think about the thousands of people who were spontaneously organized and working to spread sound economic thinking. When he dropped out he turned it all off. All ron paul needs to do is say he will run and go from university to university gathering bigger and bigger crowds until the intellectual revolution truly explodes into the mainstream. By saying he will run that amazing organization which costs him NOTHING will once again kick into high gear. The sooner the better. If he does it now, by nov 2012 the snowball will have turned into the avalanche that will bring a libertarian revolution and thus prosperity to the whole world! Yeah!

The TV ads in 2008 did SUCK. I'm sure anyone who remembers, the first ad created by the campaign was the corniest bullshit ever made!

  3. RON PAUL! Sen RON PAUL! ORAAH!

  4. Honestly, I hope Ron doesn't run and insteads campaigns like a motherf***er for Gary Johnson, unifying the libertarian/constitutionalist vote under one banner and laying the groundwork for the newer/younger RonPaul-types that are up and coming.
Basically, at some point, age matters and that time is now. I totally want Ron to be in Johnson's cabinet if Johnson wins but we can't expect someone of Ron's age to handle the full burden of president and Ron is more of a policy-guy than a leader/executive type. Also, the movement Ron created is more important than the person (who is now 76 and would be 80 after 1 term). Also, if we can transfer leadership of the movement to young/fresher people like Johnson and Rand Paul etc, the movement is more likely to keep going strong.

  5. Johnson has no momentum, he doesn't have the depth of knowledge, and he isn't an icon. As long as we have Ron or Rand Paul, Gary Johnson is an afterthought.

  6. Gary Johnson is all about U.S. nation building in Afghanistan, Iraq, and even Mexico. No support here.

  7. Justin dissects Gary Johnson: http://original.antiwar.com/justin/2011/04/21/gar

  8. Hey Scott Horton, your ass-kissing will turn Ron Paul off from running. You scraped his ballz on that one.

  9. Didn't your mama teach you how to talk?
    Your thoughts were expressed foolishly.

  10. Who? Who asked you that is. I don't have a mom. My dad and I share yours. Anyways, be more productive with your time and comment on the interview, rather than comment on my comment. I admit though, I'm now stooping down to your level and commenting on your ridiculous comment.

  12. Mike Gravel had some great pro-youth adds.
I love the ones with the I-Love-Obama girl!

  13. Ron Paul Revolution 2012!! The time has come to give Peace a Chance! Reclaim Our Republic!

  14. Excellent analysis by Raimondo. Johnson's an interventionist with regard to foreign policy. Ain't no way I'd support him.

  15. As always, my best regards to Doctor Paul.

By the way, Doctor, Jesse Ventura recently said that if you run as an independent for President, he, Ventura, would like to be your running mate. Any thoughts? . . .

  16. Jorge: great point

  17. Man really? Gary johnson says yes to the federal reserve and GITMO…what the hell man?!?!

  18. Thank you very much

  19. Excellent work there. Completely agree with Geroge..
