Grant F. Smith

Grant F. Smith, director of the Institute for Research: Middle Eastern Policy in Washington, D.C., discusses his article “Obama vs. Reagan on AIPAC: documents reveal Ronald Reagan’s response to Israel lobby invitation;” how Israel’s constant state of emergency makes negotiated concessions impossible; the counter AIPAC convention in Washington during May 21-24; and how Israel has earned more international scorn (but not in the US) by shooting Nakba protesters.

  1. O-Bomb-a will likely attend the AIPAC convention. The latter's puppet strings are firmly attached to him, after all. (Say, what about NuttyYahoo? Isn't he supposed to be in town to address Knesset West–er, the U.S. Congress? I'm sure he'll want to attend the AIPAC shindig, too.)

No, the U.S. Government didn't condemn the shooting of the Nakba protesters. Then again, the U.S. doesn't protest when Israel kills Americans. . . .

Make the counter AIPAC convention one to remember!

    1. Obama is indeed greatly influenced, if not actually owned, by Israel.
But our shame goes back beyond Obama. The grotesque timidity — yellow bellied cowardice — of the U.S. govt in not daring to even whisper a mild objection to Israel for killing the young American heroine Rachel Corry by deliberately running over her with a Caterpillar bulldozer and then backing up over her body again. And the U.S. taxpayer more than likely paid for the bulldozer the Israelis used to crush this young girl's body.

  2. Of course Obama's going to go to AIPAC. He wouldn't refuse to go anymore than a hooker would refuse to give a BJ to her pimp.

  3. You lefties and right-wing idiots can bitch, whine, and complain yet you people continue to vote for some idiot out of the machine. You want this to stop? Well, Ron Paul is running this year and for the final time. Last chance. Yeah I know, "I don't like this or that about him, blah, blah, blah." Well fine, go down the toilet and take the rest of us with you!

THINK people. THINK. You're not going to find "the perfect" candidate. You can find one who will get rid of the war on drugs and end this senseless killing and profit-taking by the military industrial complex. Your choice. Get with the program. LAST chance.

  4. JERUSALEM — Israel's prime minister on Thursday gave a cool reception to President Barack Obama's Mideast policy speech, warning a withdrawal from the West Bank wold leave Israel vulnerable to attack and setting up what could be a tense meeting at the White House.

“Bahrain is a long-standing partner, and we are committed to its security. We recognize that Iran has tried to take advantage of the turmoil there, and that the Bahraini government has a legitimate interest in the rule of law. Indeed, one of the broader lessons to be drawn from this period is that sectarian divides need not lead to conflict. In Iraq, we see the promise of a multi-ethnic, multi-sectarian democracy”.

Is all oratory by the US/EU-NATO capitalism.., is in the systems nature talking for the US/NATO interests and continues the same policies toward nations in Middle East.., one thing is for sure.., anything and everything that any US president been saying about a Palestinians states for last 20 years or so have turn out to be rhetoric saving the US and EU interests to begin with. The only change here is that Barack Hussein Obama is point out the notion presented by Saudis 5-10 years ago into his speech asking for Israel to go back to 1967 Israeli borders.., in that regard Israel already have rejected the idea.., which means that there is not going to be any peace no matter what Obama have said or going to say.

Talking about peace between Islamic sects is yet another reelection party line based on Obama doctrine mimicking the Jimmy Carter doctrine.., regarding religious democracy and how to achieve it in Middle East.., but the idea behind democracy no matter how you look at it is not based on religion.., so by US and EU establishing and supporting Muslims Brotherhood is establishing another dictatorial regime which would not work for democracy and Israel will reject to that as well.

Here, Iran and Iraq are example of what kind of ”democracy” that Obama is talking about.., or for that matter Bahrain and other royal family his protecting., the brutality in murdering and displacing Sunnis or Shiiets or Christianity is a daily happening in Iraq, the brutal Saudis or Bahraini or Iranian regime killing of its people, the non existing freedom of speech, the non existing rights of women and whatever is there is only based on religious framed laws; therefore the notion that there will be a peace and democracy later in time is ridicules by itself.

Having said that: democracy is a two way street leading to all other junctions.., limiting it then is going to be a one way street.., therefore, for last 50 years or so is all been talks and no actions from US or EU to force Israel to accept the fact that they cannot go around calling themselves the only democracy in the region while it is Israel who sabotaging the peace and forthcoming of a democratic government of Palestine.., so if Obama wants peace then Israel have to be forced to accept the peace plan accepting what the Palestinians are formed of.., if not then boycott the country and reject all kind of payment to Israel.., ($300 billion annually) as US and EU have done to Iraq and doing it to other Arab nations.., then and only then you have proven that Obama doctrine is about democracy.., otherwise is just another reelection party line lies as before.
