Globetrotting journalist Pepe Escobar discusses his recent articles at the Asia Times; why the whole world is a mess except for South America; the Iran to Pakistan (and possibly China) pipeline, abhorred by the US, that could be operational in 2014; how Iran sanctions allow Russia’s Gazprom to continue dominating the European energy market; US strategists coming up short in the global “great game;” Syria’s strategic importance to Russia’s navy and NATO’s plans for Mediterranean supremacy; AFRICOM’s reconquest of Africa; and a possible Iran-Iraq-Syria-Lebanon pipeline.

Pepe Escobar is the author of Globalistan: How the Globalized World is Dissolving Into Liquid War and Obama Does Globalistan.

An extreme traveler, Pepe’s nose for news has taken him to all parts of the globe. He was in Afghanistan and interviewed the military leader of the anti-Taliban Northern Alliance, Ahmad Shah Masoud, a couple of weeks before his assassination. Two weeks before September 11, 2001, while Pepe was in the tribal areas of Pakistan, Asia Times Online published his prophetic piece, “Get Osama! Now! Or else …” Pepe was one of the first journalists to reach Kabul after the Taliban’s retreat, and more recently he has explored and reported from Iraq, Iran, Central Asia, US and China.

  1. Any and all global competition — Always pro-war

War is the ultimate conclusion of this illusion that we deserve to “Be All You Can Be,” for most guilty does your conscience feel if ever you fail to take all you can take, own all you can own and strive to be a dictator over all that you own.

For all land and wealth is already owned, and if were going to compete and take from others, then deadly force is needed to enforce contracts and inflict punishment upon those who cheat, swindle and defraud, with governments being the most guilty of fraud and a war being the court of last resort.

  2. I never miss an interview with Pepe Escobar. He's simply the best, incomparable and always a lot of fun. There is so much here to digest, I have to listen to this again. If any of our politicians ever listened to Pepe they might finally actually learn something about foreign policy instead of simply going along with the CIA-Mossad self-destructive delusion/trap that just drives us deeper and deeper into war/debt.

  3. Maximizing profit for Military Industrial Complex — How are we doing?

Obama went to Saudi Arabia last year and come home with a contract to trade $60 billion of Middle-East oil for $60 billion of war materials made in USA. A big plus for our military, considering that 60% of all the crude oil we consume as a nation is poured down a black hole called the military.

  4. rich man's war, poor man's fight is not applicable. 1% elite's war. volunteer's fight. here is an incomplete list of the winners and losers of the war on terror:

  6. BUT wait Roger…Isn't debt really profit for the Federal Reserve….. So these wars and run-ups to wars really profit the American Federal Reserve…. OOPS… I forgot, it is American and Federal on name only….. So where DOES the profits they make end up……. When they aren't just adding zeros to their balance sheets…. The computer age means they don't really do the work of printing dollars anymore…..!!! Just sign in and ad a trillion or two…. It's a tough job, but someone needs to do it… BUT why not US, We the people and not let the private Federal Reserve Bank make the money..???

  7. WOW!! What a great interview…. Like everyone has already said Pepe is plain great, and Scot sets it up for our maximum benefit…. Whatta Team…!!!

  11. you guys are acting all confused saying why ae they favoring Rusia over Iran it doesn't benefit the US at all. We all know why. ISRAEL

  12. The reason to block the lines in Afghanistan when a line can go around it in the south is because the line in the south is from Iran not from the Caspian Sea. And obviously they are trying to block the IP too in Baluchestan via Jundullah (which is again Israeli run)
