At least 126 Iraqis were killed or found dead today and another 73 were
wounded in violent acts across the country. Attacks were light in Baghdad
where combined U.S. and Iraqi forces had been conducting raids. Also, the U.S.
military reported that two
American soldiers died from combat wounds yesterday in Anbar province,
soldier was killed by an explosive device in Fallujah; the death of
a fourth soldier had already been reported
In Baghdad, a traffic
officer was wounded when a bomb went off in the Karradah neighborhood. Another
bomb exploded near the al Dulaimy petrol station in southern Baghdad; killing
one and injuring three others. Two
more civilians were injured by another bomb near Tayaran Square. A bomb
exploded near Sadr City; it cut off the water supply to the area, but no
casualties were reported. Also, mortars killed
two and injured two others in an eastern neighborhood.
Also in the capital, at least 60
dumped bodies were discovered throughout the city. An engineer working for
al Sabah newspaper, Aqeel
Adnan, was kidnapped in the Wazariyah neighborhood. And, the combined U.S.
and Iraqi soldiers who were conducting an operation on Haifa Street wrapped
up their mission and calm returned to the area today despite continued
troop presence and house-to-house
In Mosul, mortars fell on a residential section; four
girls at a high school, two women, and three children were injured in the
attack. Gunmen fired into a bus station, killing
a woman. And a nurse
was killed when a private clinic was raided. Also, four
Iraqi soldiers were injured on Tuesday night when a bomb exploded near their
patrol. At least eight
bodies were found scattered around Mosul.
In Madaen, gunmen killed
two workers who were repairing a sabotaged water pipe.
Near Nukhaib, gunmen fired upon pilgrims returning from the haj; 12
were killed and 18 wounded.
A bomb at a petrol station in Mahmudiya killed
two people. Mortars killed
one person and injured four when the rounds landed on their home.
A roadside bomb in Kirkuk injured
the son of a police colonel and two others.
In Tal Afar, four
died and 12 were wounded during a suicide bomber attack in a marketplace.
Outside of town, a roadside bomb targeting the mayor’s convoy killed
a child and wounded four, including three policemen and the mayor’s driver.
bearing gunshot and torture wounds, were found outside the town of Qaim.
In Mahaweel, four
bodies were discovered; they were bound and gunshot.
Mortars fell on Fallujah and killed
one person outside police headquarters.
A shot and bound body
was found in Iskandariya.
In al Yousifiya, a booby-trapped car killed
three and injured 11 others.
In Baquba, three
gunmen were killed in a clash with Iraqi army troops. In a separate incident,
police were able to difuse
a bomb before it exploded.
