Civilian violence picked
up today with several incidents occurring in the capital and elsewhere. At
least 102 Iraqis were reported killed or found dead and another 31 Iraqis
were wounded. A roadside
bomb killed one American soldier today in southern Baghdad. A separate
roadside bomb killed
a soldier in a northeren neighborhood as well.
In Baghdad, a roadside
bomb killed one
and wounded two others in a northern neighborhood. A Katyusha rocket landed
in the Karrada district, killing
three people and wounded six others there. Three
policemen were killed and two more were wounded when gunmen opened fire on
them in the Zayouna district. Judge
Omar Abdul-Nabi and two others were killed and another person was wounded
during a drive-by shooting in the Karrada district. In the Risada district, gunmen
killed five worshippers and wounded another. U.S. and Iraqi troops engaged
in clashes in a Sunni neighborhood; a Humvee was destroyed. Also, 15
dumped bodies were recovered on Monday, and at least 19
bodies were found today.
In Mosul, 17
dumped bodies bearing gunshot wounds were found over the last couple of days.
Also, one person
was killed and four wounded during a mortar attack. Two
men were killed and three wounded when U.S. forces observed them planting
a roadside bomb and engaged them with rocket fire.
Gunmen in Kirkuk killed
a policeman and wounded three other officers in a drive-by shooting. A roadside
bomb killed four
firefighters in a separate incident.
The general director of a mechanical
industries company, Hatam
Muhsin, was gunned down in Iskandariya.
Two
shot bodies were fished out of an irrigation ditch near Kut. At least five
other bodies were discovered in the area. Also, an Iraqi translator working
for the U.S. military was
shot dead, and a U.S. base was shelled overnight as well.
Police found
a body bearing
gunshot and torture wounds in Diwaniya.
Two
people were shot and killed as they were driving to Tikrit University; a third
person was kidnapped. In eastern Tikrit, a roadside bomb blasted an oil tanker
and killed
its driver.
Iraqi troops reported killing
eight suspects and arresting 45 others in different parts of Iraq. Four
security personnel were killed and five wounded during the operations.
In
Diyala, an Iraqi legislator from the Sunni Iraqi Accordance Front survived an
assassination attempt; a bodyguard
was killed and three others were wounded instead.
The director of the
Red Crescent Society in Salah ad Din province was
kidnapped and his driver killed.
A doctor
was injured and his son killed during an attack by gunmen in Samarra.
