Saturday: 2 GIs, 94 Iraqis Killed; 130 Iraqis Wounded

At least 94 Iraqis were killed or found dead and 130 wounded during violent attacks, including a suicide truck bombing near Hilla and mortar fire on a U.S. detention center. Eleven people were kidnapped in Khalis. Despite repeated warnings, Turkey continues to escalate activities on the border. Also one Task Force Lightning soldier was killed during a small arms attack in Diyala province today, and an airman died on Thursday from wounds received during an IED blast south of Balad.

A suicide truck bomber killed 14 Iraqi soldiers and wounded 30 others more during an attack at a checkpoint near Hilla.

In Baghdad, 24 bodies were found dumped around town. A roadside bomb attack on a minibus left four dead and seven injured in Baladiyat. In Adhamiya, a car bomb killed a police commando and a pedestrian, while wounding six commandos and another civilian. Earlier, a policeman was killed and another wounded in a nearby gun attack. Also in Adhamiya, the body of Colonel Faris al-Duri was discovered. A roadside bomb in Za’afaraniya left three policemen wounded. U.S. forces killed a suspect during a raid. In al-Shabb, a car bomb killed two people and wounded eight more. Sporadic clashing took place in Amil, leaving four civilians wounded.

Mortars fired into the detention center at the U.S.-run Camp Bucca left six detainees dead and at least 50 wounded.

During raids in Fallujah, U.S.-Iraqi forces killed five suspects, and a stray bullet wounded a teenage boy. In a separate incident, a bomb injured four members of a police patrol. Also, the bodies of three Iraqi soldiers were found.

In Mosul, during a clash between rival armed groups last night, seven people were killed. Gunmen also attacked a police patrol, killing one policeman and injuring a second. A roadside bomb killed a policeman and wounded two others. Also, mortar shelling killing one civilian and wounding four others.

Mortars killed three and wounded seven yesterday in Samarra.

In Baquba, two suicide bombers at a police checkpoint killed one officer. U.S. forces fired upon a mosque after gunfire targeting U.S. troops erupted from it.

Fierce fighting took place between Iraqi security forces and the Mahdi army in Muqdadiyah. The number of casualties was not yet reported, but witnesses claimed there were losses on both sides. At least one person is known dead.

In Basra, British forces bombed locations thought to be populated by armed groups. Meanwhile, British targets also received heavy fire. No casualties were reported. Eight barbers have been killed over the last two days; a decree forbidding barbers from using modern tools may be to blame.

The body of a policeman was found in Diwaniyah.

Eleven were kidnapped from a fake security checkpoint in Khalis.

A family of five was gunned down between Kanaan and Nahrawan.
