American forces took
a heavy hit today as nine GIs were killed in various incidents. The U.S.
military also announced a previously unreported death that occurred on June 14th.
At least 75 Iraqis were killed or found dead and 39 were injured in numerous
small incidents throughout the country.
Four
MND-B soldiers were killed during a roadside bombing today northwest of
the capital; an Iraqi
interpreter was also wounded. An MNC-I
airman died from wounds caused by a roadside bomb in Tikrit. In eastern
Baghdad, a roadside bomb followed by small arms fire killed
two MND-B soldiers and wounded three others. One MND-B
soldier died from non-battle related causes. In southern Baghdad, an MND-B
soldier was killed during a small arms attack. The DOD reported that a
soldier
had died on June 14, a day after being injured in a roadside bombing.
Also, a mortar round injured
an American soldier in Baghdad.
In Baghdad, mortars killed
three people and injured two more in the Bayaa neighborhood. A mortar in Ur
caused
no casualties. Gunmen bombed an Uwereeg area furniture store and injured
one civilian. A mortar in the al-Jaza'ir neighborhood injured
an Iraqi soldier. Also, 15
unidentified bodies were found dumped in several neighborhoods.
A
car bomb killed
two people and wounded 18 more in Hilla.
Gunmen stormed a police
commando building in Samarra, killing
three policemen and a gunman.
Five
civilians were wounded during the 45-minute battle.
In Baquba,
Iraqi troops killed
five men who were placing a bomb near a bridge. Gunmen stormed
a hospital and held the personnel hostage; they left after stealing money and
cell phones. Also, two
policemen were injured in a shooting north of town.
Six
men were killed at a fake checkpoint near Karbala. The wife of one
of the men was released.
In Khalis, 11
al-Qaeda suspects were killed on Wednesday, said military sources. Three
civilians were gunned down in separate incidents. Also, seven
gunmen were killed in Khalis.
A roadside bomb in Mussayab
killed one policeman
and wounded three others.
In Iskandariya, a roadside bomb killed
one policeman and wounded two others near a police convoy.
A U.S. airstrike
killed five suspects
and destroyed their car bomb near Fallujah. Gunmen killed
the deputy chairman of the sports committee. A policeman
was gunned down in a store.
Near Tikrit, U.S. forces killed
two men in a car when they refused to stop.
A police
officer and his two bodyguards were gunned down near Najaf.
Three
civilians were wounded during a bombing in Abu Saida.
In Kirkuk,
an Iraqi soldier was
injured during an attack on a checkpoint. The body
of a young student was found strangled
Also, two
detainees died of apparent heart attacks at Camp Bucca, but the second
one was also suffering from wounds received during mortar fire on the camp.
In
Kufa, a policeman
and his wife were shot dead.
