Friday: 5 GIs, 52 Iraqis Killed; 45 Iraqis Wounded

Five American troops were killed and seven wounded during a roadside bomb and small arms attack on their patrol. These deaths make this the deadliest quarter for GIs since the war began. At least 52 Iraqis were killed or found dead and 45 more were wounded during the latest attacks, which included an attack on an Iraqi army post in Mishada.

In Baghdad, a U.S. convoy killed a man in al Rashad but no further details were given. Mortars fell in Karada and the Green Zone but no casualties were reported. In the Saidiya neighborhood, gunmen killed a man and three women, one of them was pregnant. Four people were killed in overnight mortar attacks in Fadhil. Ten people were wounded during separate mortar attacks. A suicide bomber killed four people and wounded 11 in the Tarmiya neighborhood. Also, seven bodies were found in several neighborhoods.

A suicide bomber killed six Iraqi soldiers and wounded five at an army post in Mishada. Two civilians were killed during ensuing gunfire.

British installations in Basra came under their usual mortar and rocket attacks, but no casualties were reported.

A bomb destroyed part of an oil pipeline in Haswa but no casualties were reported.

Three bodies were found in Balad.

In Tikrit, three civilians were injured during a roadside bomb explosion.

Gunmen shot dead a policeman in Kirkuk. Another policeman was injured in a separate attack. A civilian was wounded in a third attack. Also, four people were kidnapped.

In Taza, police killed a gunman and arrested six others. One policeman was killed during the operation.

The body of a policeman was found in Kut. A woman was injured during a roadside bomb attack targeting a U.S. patrol.

One suspect was killed and another detained in Mosul. Gunmen killed three women.

Gunmen killed a policeman in Hawija.

In Khalis, gunmen killed a man and wounded his wife. The mayor says that al-Qaeda militants fleeing Baquba are now swarming the area.

Two ice cube vendors were killed in Khuwaylis.

Militants planted explosives in Rahman mosque in Muqdadiyah. No casualties were reported.

Gunmen in Tal Afar staged a combined roadside and small arms attack. Two Iraqi soldiers and two policemen were killed, nine others were wounded.

In Tuz Khurmato, gunmen killed a truck driver and kidnapped two others.

U.S. forces killed three suspects in separate locations.
