Friday: 7 GIs, 73 Iraqis Killed; 113 Iraqis Wounded

At least 73 Iraqis were killed and 113 were injured in the latest incidents. Clashes between security forces and the Mahdi army continue in Samawa, but otherwise it has been a relatively quiet day. Also, seven GIs were killed and six were wounded.

Today, two MND-B soldiers were killed and three were wounded during an IED attack. An EFP killed an MND-B soldier and an Iraqi interpreter; three GIs were also wounded. An MNC-I soldier was killed during combat operations yesterday in Baghdad. Two Marines were killed during combat operations yesterday in Anbar. In western Baghdad, an MND-B soldier was killed during a roadside bombing.

In Baghdad, four explosions likely caused by mortar fire rocked the Green Zone; no casualties were as yet reported. A banker and four bodyguards were kidnapped from the Amil neighborhood. A civilian was killed and another two were injured during a roadside bomb attack in Za’afaraniya. In Yarmouk, a roadside bomb caused no casualties. Two people were wounded in Karadat Mariam during a mortar attack. Mortars falling in Fadhl killed seven members of one family and injured two neighbors as they slept on their rooftops. Five dumped bodies were discovered in as many neighborhoods.

In Samawa, another four people were killed during a second day of clashes; 43 more wounded were also reported.

In Ahmad Maref, 26 people were killed and 33 others wounded during a suicide car bombing.

A roadside bomb in Muqdadiyah blasted a U.S. patrol, injuring several soldiers. A clash with miltants followed.

In Tikrit, gunmen attacked the family of Sheikh Shaloukh al-Rufayee, killing seven and injuring nine others.

Four security personnel were killed and three civilians were wounded in Samarra. Gunmen bombed three schools.

An Iraqi soldier was killed in Hawija.

In Khaneqeen, seven Iraqi soldiers were injured during a bomb attack.

Three policemen were wounded during a drive-by shooting in Kirkuk. Police injured two people while firing shots to clear traffic. Missiles injured one civilian. Gunmen injured one policeman. Also, gunmen injured one civilian.

A roadside bomb in Hilla killed four Iraqi soldiers and injured two more.

In Yusufiya, an Iraqi soldier was killed during a roadside bomb attack. An oil pipeline was blown up.

Two bodies, bearing gunshot and torture marks, were found in Mahmudiya.

Nine civilians were kidnapped from a fake checkpoint in Khalis.

A U.S. airstrike destroyed three homes in Mada’en but left no casualties. Police commandos confiscated a body and arrested two people at a funeral.

Gunmen killed a married couple in Mosul. Gunmen attacked a police patrol with a hand grenade; one officer was killed and another was injured. Also, a newborn was stolen from a hospital.

Iraqi police arrested a man attempting to carry out a chlorine attack in Ramadi.

Two policemen and a civilian were killed during clashes in Haditha.

Turkish forces bombed inside Iraqi territory near Zakho but no casualties were reported.

A child was killed in Umm Hilayil during a roadside bombing.

Coalition forces killed three militants in Anbar province.

Mortars falling in Tuz Khormatu left no casualties. Police reported that the cell phone of a kidnapped Kurd, who is an Iraqi soldier, was used to inform them that the soldier was killed. Authorities believe the announcement was false because no body was found. He was kidnapped on a highway that leads to Kirkuk from Tuz Khormatu.
