A series of car bombings
in Baghdad today left dozens dead and injured. Overall, 104 Iraqis were killed
or found dead and 114 more were wounded in violence throughout Iraq. Three
American servicemembers were killed in separate events as well.
A Marine
was killed while conducting combat operations in Anbar province today.
On Saturday, an MNC-I
soldier was killed in Baghdad when an explosive device was detonated next
to his vehicle, and a 13th
SC(E) Soldier was killed by an IED in Samarra.
In Baghdad,
a pair of simultaneous car bombs in the Karrada district killed
10 people and wounded 38 others. Another car bomb, this one near al-Wathiq
Square, killed
three and wounded five more. Four
people were killed and seven were wounded during a fourth car bombing at a
popular restaurant close to the nearby Green Zone. A bomb left on a minibus
killed
one and wounded nine in central Baghdad. In the al-Wadha neighborhood,
one
person was killed and two were injured by an explosive device. Another explosive
device killed one person
and wounded seven in Bab al-Muadham. Four
people were injured during an IED explosion in Khadhraa.
Also
in the capital, four
Iraqi soldiers were wounded in a shootout in Adhamiya. In Waziriyah,
gunmen attacked a vehicle belonging to the oil ministry; two
people were killed and two were wounded. Four
people were wounded during a mortar attack in Doura. And, 24
dumped bodies were found scattered throughout several neighborhoods.
Seven
policemen were killed when a female
suicide bomber detonated her explosives at a police checkpoint in Ramadi.
A bomb exploded near a residence in Hilla where the blast killed
one and wounded two more. A lawyer
was shot dead south of town.
Five
policemen were wounded near Dujail during a roadside bomb blast.
Three bodies
bearing gunshot and torture wounds were found inside a building site in Iskandariya.
A man was killed and his wife
was wounded during a drive-by shooting; a policeman
was also killed, possibly during the same incident.
British forces
killed
two gunmen in Basra. British forces killed
one civilian and wounded eight others when they bombed a location downtown.
A child was injured
in a separate rocket explosion.
A roadside bomb near the Iranian border
killed
five Iraqi soldiers who were patrolling on a highway between Bela Druz
and Badra.
A former Baath party member
was shot to death in Amara.
Three
bodies were found in Tuz Khormato.
A chauffer
was injured in Suleiman Bek when an IED targeting a vehicle belonging
to a local leader was detonated.
In Mosul, three
people were killed when mortars fell at the Kurdistan Democratic Party offices.
Gunmen killed two civilians
in a separate incident. A policeman
and a policeman's wife were killed in separate incidents. A roadside bomb
killed
policeman late in the evening. A dumped
body was found. Six
Kurdish soldiers were killed in separate security operations. Also, an IED
explosion killed two
Kurdish soldiers and wounded two more.
Gunmen killed
two electrical workers and wounded a third in Muqdadiyah. The mayor
house was attacked again, and a bodyguard
was killed.
An unidentified
body was recovered in Bani Saad. Four
civilians were injured in a mortar attack.
At a fake checkpoint in
Khalis, two people
were killed, one was injured and five others were kidnapped.
Three
trucks from Khanqeen were stopped at another fake checkpoint. Five
were killed and three kidnapped.
A civilian
was killed in a Hawija drive-by shooting.
Iran shot
several artillery rounds across the border but no casualties were reported.
Gunmen
grabbed
four electrical workers and $13,000 near Makhmour. Three were release but
they kept one man and are demanding a ransom for him.
U.S. forces freed
three civilians and arrested four suspects in Samarra.
A small bridge
was blown up near Balad.
Near Saqlawiyah, three
people were wounded during a mortar attack.
In Diwaniyah, gunmen
injured
an Iraqi soldier and the body
of a policeman was found.
One
person was killed and two more were wounded during a mortar attack in Suq
Al-Shiyoukh.
A body
was found in near Samawa.
