At least 89 Iraqis
were killed and 53 were wounded in the latest round of attacks. No foreign
military were reported killed, but a Turkish villager was killed
when he refused to feed Kurdish rebels.
In Baghdad, 20
unidentified bodies were found scattered across several neighborhoods. A car
bomb in Uqba bin Nafie Square killed five
and wounded 22 others. In the Hay al-Amil district, mortars wounded
four people. A journalist
died of wounds received earlier in the week during a sniper attack. A roadside
bomb targeting a U.S. patrol in New Baghdad injured
no one. In Adhamiya, a sniper killed
two policemen. During security operations in several locations, four
Iraqi soldiers were killed, 12 soldiers were wounded, and two gunmen were also
injured. A pair of mortars injured
two people in Za'afaraniyah. Also the casualties from a bombing in
Karrada on Thursday rose by 36
deaths to 61 total after numerous bodies were pulled from the rubble; a well-known
political cartoonist and his family were also killed
in the blast.
A roadside bomb killed
one Iraqi soldier and wounded three others on a highway near Yusufiya.
Gunmen in Iskandariya killed
one person. Yesterday, a bomb killed
a woman and injured another.
Two
women were killed and another person was wounded in a roadside bomb attack
in Mussayab.
In Mosul, gunmen killed
two policemen at a bridge crossing.
A British patrol killed
two gunmen in Basra. British targets came under their daily attacks,
but no casualties were reported.
U.S. forces arrested
16 people in separate locations.
The separatist Kurdish Workers' Party
(PKK) denied
reports that four of its leaders were killed yesterday and accused Turkish media
of issuing false reports on a regular basis.
A Turkish
villager was killed when he refused to feed a group of PKK rebels.
Last
night, gunmen dressed as women shot up a checkpoint in Riyadh, killing
three Kurdish soldiers and wounding
a fourth. Also, a roadside bomb killed
an Iraqi soldier and wounded two more.
In Garma, a disembodied
head was found in a cooler.
Three
policemen and three gunmen were killed during an attack in Rabi'a;
three
gunmen were also injured.
