Monday: 4 GIs, 82 Iraqis Killed; 65 Iraqis Wounded

No major incidents involving Asian Cup celebrations were reported yesterday; however, Baghdad suffered one significant car bombing today. Overall, at least 82 Iraqis were killed or found dead and 65 were wounded. Also the U.S. military reported that four American servicemembers were killed.

The DOD reported that three GIs were killed in Saqlawiyah when an IED blasted their vehicle on Thursday. The family of an American soldier who was on medical leave in the U.S. said that the soldier had died of wounds he received in a roadside bombing.

In Baghdad, a car bomb killed six and wounded 31 in al-Tayaran square. A roadside bomb in a northern neighborhood killed two Iraqi soldiers and wounded three others. In Jamiya, four Iraqi soldiers were killed and three were wounded during a roadside bomb attack. Mortars in Mahmoudiyah, Shuala and Zafaraniyah injured 10 people. Also, 25 dumped bodies were recovered from locations throughout the city.

In Balad, four people were killed and six were wounded when a suicide bomber attacked a checkpoint with a loaded fuel truck. A car bomb killed a policeman and wounded six others yesterday.

Two policemen were shot and killed in Diwaniya.

A tribal clash in Iskandariya left three dead and two wounded.

An unconfirmed report about a massacre in Khan Bani Saad has surfaced. About 20 people were killed and several more kidnapped overnight during an attack by Sunni militants.

A female official with the Kurdistan Democratic Party was among four people shot to death in the Kirkuk area; two civilians and a local leader were also killed. A police recruit was injured during a shooting, while two policemen and a civilian were injured in a separate incident.

In Kut, four civilians were wounded during a vehicle collision with a U.S. humvee. One policeman was killed and another injured in separate incidents involving gunmen.

Two people were killed in sports celebrations in Sulaimaniyah.

A woman was killed and her two children injured during a mortar attack in Fallujah; a man and another boy were also injured. A policeman ended up in hospital after he was stabbed by unknown assailants.

Also, 14 people were arrested trying to sneak into Turkey.
