As Baghdad and Tal Afar
were rocked by numerous bombings, the cities of Iskandariya, Samarra, Suwayra
and Hilla were plagued with assassinations. Overall, at least 68 Iraqis were
killed and 112 more were wounded during the latest attacks. And, one
MND-B soldier was killed today during a small arms attack in southern
Baghdad.
In Baghdad, eight
bodies were recovered. Four
people were killed and eight were wounded during a bombing at a Zaafaraniya
area petrol station. In Waziriya, a bomb on a minibus killed
one and wounded two more; however, the casualty figures may
rise. Near a bus station in Wihda, a bomb killed
three people and wounded eight more. In Ur, a bomb targeting a U.S.
patrol instead killed
one civilian and wounded six more. One
person was killed in a bombing on the west side. Also, two
people were killed and 11 wounded during a bombing near Camp Sara.
A
suicide bomber
in Tal Afar killed
three people and wounded 57 at a marketplace.
Iskandariya’s
mayor and four
bodyguards were killed during a roadside bomb attack on their convoy; a fourth
guard was wounded. One
dumped body was found. Also, a police
brigadier-general was killed during a separate attack yesterday in the al-Asiriya
neighborhood.
A Salah ad Din Awakening Council member
was killed along with and five bodyguards during a roadside bomb attack near
Samarra. A roadside bomb also outside the city injured
three Iraqi soldiers.
Gunmen stormed a home in Suwayra and
killed a Sunni
tribal leader living there.
A local
official was killed in Hilla’s al-Shawi area. A bullet-riddled
body was also found.
Gunmen traveling by motorbike killed
a policeman near his home outside Kut.
A motorcycle bomb wounded
an Iraqi soldier in Riyadh.
In Balad Ruz, clashes between
the Iraqi army and gunmen suspected of having ties with al-Qaeda left two
dead gunmen, three dead civilians and two injured civilians.
Six
Iraqi soldiers were wounded during a small arms attack in Khalis. Shelling
was also reported.
No
casualties were reported during shelling of the British base in Basra.
A contractor was kidnapped
in Daquoq.
Two men were arrested
while planting a roadside bomb in al-Rashad.
A roadside bomb killed
a policeman in downtown Kirkuk.
Gunmen killed
a person in Qara Taba.
The body
of a 25-year-old woman was found shot in Irbil.
Gunmen in Mosul
fired upon the home of a PDK (Patriotic Democratic of Kurdstan) member and injured
his mother.
Near Khanaqeen, a roadside bomb targeting an Iraqi
army patrol resulted in no
casualties.
No
casualties were reported during shelling in Fallujah.
The Iraqi
army reported killing
six and arresting 57 other suspects across the country. U.S. forces killed
one and detained eight more suspects in northern and central Iraq. A major
operation by Iraqi forces near Samarra left nine
gunmen and two policemen dead.
Also, religious observances in Najaf
concluded without
violence as 1.5 million people visited the holy city.
