Among the latest incidents
in Iraq, a suicide bomber killed and wounded dozens of police recruits in Baquba.
Another bombing left over 20 dead and injured in Siniya. Overall, at least 87
Iraqis were killed or found dead and 61 more were wounded. No Coalition troops
were reported killed.
A U.S.
general was injured along with another GI during a roadside bombing in
Baghdad.
Nine of 10 tribal chiefs who were kidnapped yesterday in Baghdad
were freed
today during a military operation; the tenth sheikh had been killed shortly after
the abduction. Four
of the kidnappers were killed.
A suicide
bomber riding a bicycle attacked a police base in Baquba where he killed
30 policemen and wounded 25 others; at least one woman and one child were
among the injured.
Twenty dumped
and beheaded bodies were found near a police station west of the city. Also,
a university professor was kidnapped.
In Tikrit, a pair of U.S. air strikes in separate districts killed
two people and wounded 10 more, including women and children. One of the strikes
may have targeted
a children's playground.
In Baghdad, four
unidentified bodies were recovered today. A street
sweeper was killed and a second was wounded during an armed attack in Mansour.
In Bayaa, one
person was killed and six were wounded when a car bomb exploded at a bus terminal.
Three
people were wounded during an explosion in Karada. Also, 16 gunmen
were arrested
throughout the city.
A car bomb near Baiji in the town of Siniya
left eight dead
and 13 wounded.
Gunmen in Mosul stormed a home, where they
killed
four people and wounded another person, all from the same family; three women
were among the dead. An Iraqi
soldier was killed in a western district. A housewife
was killed in al-Wehda, while a
civilian was gunned down in al-Jazaer. Also, a
policewoman and a civilian were killed in separate incidents elsewhere.
Security forces in Amiriyat al-Fallujah arrested two men involved in the
shooting death
of a police officer.
No
casualties were reported during a Katyusha rocket attack on the British base
in Basra. Also, one Iraqi soldier was killed and 12 were injured during
a vehicular
accident.
A university
professor was assassinated in Najaf. Also, a captain from the police
commandos was killed
in a separate event.
The body
of a woman, who had been shot to death, was found in Kut.
In Arbil,
an Iraqi smuggler was
killed.
A civilian
was killed in Kirkuk.
An improvised bomb in Barima village
killed a woman, while injuring
her husband and daughter.
In Turkey, at least two Turkish soldiers
were killed
as the country continues to threaten the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK). Near the
border, Turkish troops have surrounded
a group of PKK rebels based in the Turkish mountainside.
