At least 47 Iraqis were
killed or found dead and 33 more were wounded in the latest round of violence.
An MND-Center
soldier was also killed during a roadside bomb explosion south of Baghdad
yesterday, and the DOD reported that another
soldier was killed by a bomb in Baghdad. Meanwhile, a steep increase in
cholera cases has been reported.
In Baghdad, four
unidentified bodies were found. A roadside bomb targeting a police convoy
killed
one policeman and injured two others in the Jisr Diyala area. Three
Iraqi soldiers were wounded during a bombing in New Baghdad. During
security operations, one
gunman was killed and three policemen were injured. Also, a mortar fell in
Adhamiya, but no casualties
were reported.
The al-Waleed chief
of police and five other police officers were killed and four more were wounded
during a roadside bombing in Garma.
In Tal Asquf, a suicide
car bomber killed one woman and injured five others at a Kurdistan Democratic
Party office. Another office had been attacked yesterday.
Seven
bodies were discovered in the Lake Thar Thar region just days after
the discovery of another mass grave.
In Saidiya, gunmen killed
three Iraqi soldiers and wounded another three.
Gunmen killed
three policemen in Mandali. Also, nine
dumped bodies were found.
A Baquba Awakening Council member
was gunned down in central Baquba. During clashing in New Baquba, another
Awakening Council member
was killed along with a policeman. More clashes in Kanaan left two
gunmen dead and injured another council member.
Two
shot bodies were found in Mahaweel. They bore blindfolds and handcuffs.
In Basra, the head of the education department and an influential member
of the Supreme Islamic Iraq Council survived
an assassination attempt involving a roadside bomb. Two
bodyguards and two pedestrians were injured in the attempt.
A roadside
bomb in Kut killed
a civilian and wounded four officers.
No casualties were reported
when gunmen blew up a Riyadh youth center.
A suicide
bomber injured four civilians at a café in Hibhib.
Iraqi
forces killed
two suspects and arrested 65 others. Joint U.S. and Iraqi forces freed
500 prisoners from an over-crowded detention system. British forces agreed
to release 15 Mahdi Army members.
Also, Iranian security forces have killed
three Kurdish rebels belonging to the Iranian offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers
Party (PKK) in a Kurdish region of Iran.
