Saturday: 1 US Soldier, 58 Iraqis Killed; 35 Iraqis Wounded

At least 58 Iraqis were killed and 35 more were wounded in various attacks. A major clash left 33 dead in Samarra, though some of the fighters were foreign. One MND-North soldier was killed and three more were wounded during an explosion in Diyala province. Meanwhile, the Iraqi government is moving to closer to passing an anti-immunity law that could cause foreign contractors to end operations there.

Near Samarra, Islamic Army troops killed up to 18 people during clashes with al-Qaeda elements. Fifteen army troops and villagers were also killed. The Islamic Army is a Sunni militia group that has joined forces with U.S. troops to rid Iraq of al-Qaeda fighters. They said some of the fighters were foreign.

In Baghdad, six dumped bodies were found in as many neighborhoods. An explosion near a minibus killed two people and wounded nine in Baladiyat. In Bayaa, gunmen wounded two people riding in a car. A bomb near a petrol station in Bab al-Sharji left three wounded. In western Baghdad, gunmen killed a motorist, but the other passengers were uninjured. A car bomb in Tayaran square failed to cause injuries. Also, the Interior Ministry was infiltrated and almost 200 weapons were stolen.

Four passengers were killed and 16 more were wounded, including women and children, when a bomb targeting a minibus in the Boursa neighborhood was detonated in Mosul. Gunmen killed an Iraqi army officer near his home in al-Kafaat.

An Iraqi soldier was killed when a bomb blew up under his Humvee in Muqdadiyah.

In Balad Ruz, two policemen were killed and five others were wounded during a bomb attack on their patrol car.

Clashes in al-Uhaimer village left an Iraqi soldier and two gunmen dead.

Gunmen killed a bakery worker in Baquba. Iraqi police freed a kidnap victim after giving chase to the abductors. Also four dumped bodies were recovered.

In Azim, a policeman was gunned down.

No casualties were reported after a Katyusha rocket attack on the Basra home of an Iraqi parliamentarian. The Manjoun oil field was also attacked.

Gunmen set fire to an oil pipeline near Riyadh. No casualties were reported but it took several hours to put the fire out.

One person was abducted from Hawija.

U.S. forces arrested 10 people in northern Iraq. Five members of the Islamic Party in Iraq were arrested. In Baghdad, 38 suspects were arrested; one Iraqi soldier was killed and four others were wounded.
