At least 43 Iraqis
were killed or found dead and 28 others were wounded on a day marked by the
multiple discoveries of dumped corpses throughout the country. Another controversial
incident involving foreign security personnel shooting an Iraqi civilian occurred
in Baghdad. A possible second incident happened near Hilla. Also, two Coalition
deaths were reported.
The DOD announced the death
of an airman from injuries sustained during a vehicle accident. Also,
an IED killed
a soldier in Baghdad last Wednesday.
In Baghdad, three
unidentified bodies were recovered. A bomb near a minibus in Baladiyat
killed one person
and wounded seven others. Three
people were injured during a roadside bombing on Palestine Street.
A roadside bomb in Bayaa wounded
five people. A bomb at al-Sakhra injured two
people. A TV reporter was released
by his abductors and is in good heath.
Also in Baghdad, a convoy of security
personnel fired upon and wounded
a woman in the Karrada district. Angry bystanders threw rocks at the convoy
following the incident. At least 43 people, mostly foreigners, in the convoy were
arrested, but the actual shooter was unidentified.
A Katyusha rocket struck
a home in western Basra, killing
five children and their mother. Two
more children were wounded.
The bodies
of five policemen were discovered in Tikrit.
Two
bodies were fished out of the Tigris River at Suwayra. They bore signs
of torture.
In Kut, the body
of a three-year-old boy was recovered from the Djila River.
A car bomb
wounded
five people, including two children, near a policeman’s home in Baiji.
Last night, a corpse
was discovered in Iskandariya. The victim had been shot in the head.
A decomposed body
was found in Latifiya.
In Baquba, three
policemen were killed during an attack on a Zaghaniya neighborhood
police station. Also, three
dumped bodies were found east of the city.
Residents of Karbala
were warned
not to pick up "weird" objects.
Four bombs were defused
in Amara.
In Hilla, no
injuries were reported during a roadside bomb attack against a convoy carrying
an adviser to Prime Minister al-Maliki. North of town, a U.S. patrol killed
a civilian man and injured his wife as they rode in their car.
A drive-by
shooting at a police checkpoint in Mosul left one
policeman dead and two more wounded.
A body
was found in the Tigris River at Dhuluiya.
The Iraqi army killed
six suspects and detained 69 others in different locations. A suspect
was killed in Baquba. In Mosul, 35 were arrested.
Security forces detained
73 more in Diwaniya and found
a large cache of weapons. Eight
suspects were killed and a site containing human
remains was found in Abu Saida. Also, four more suspects were arrested
in Babel. Meahwhile, 11 captives in Karbala were released
because they were innocent of charges.
