At least 25 Iraqis
were killed and another 28 were wounded in the latest round of violence. No
Coalition casualties were reported, but Turkey resumed
air attacks on Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) hideouts in northern Iraq.
U.S. forces targeting gunmen shelled and killed
six civilians by accident on a highway between Tikrit and Samarra.
Military officials deny they were civilians.
In Mosul, a car bomb
killed three people
and injured seven in the al-Khansaa neighborhood. Two
policemen were killed during an armed attack in Boursa. A roadside bomb in
al-Nabi Younes killed
policeman, while a car bomb injured
another policeman in al-Sukar. An Iraqi
soldier was killed and another wounded during an armed attack yesterday. Also,
the number of casualties from yesterday's
suicide bombing rose by one
dead and five wounded.
New clashes in Kut left three
people dead and five wounded. Iraqi police allegedly battled Mahdi Army members;
however, leader's from the movement have distanced themselves from the ongoing
fighting which has killed over a dozen people over the last two weeks.
An Iraqi army base in Diwaniya came under attack. Two
soldiers suffered injuries. In a separate incident, a police vehicle came
under attack, but no
casualties were reported.
Two soldiers, who were on a clearing mission,
triggered a booby-trap at a water treatment plant in Diyala. One
died and the other was wounded.
The body
of a young man was discovered at the foot of the Goezha Mountain near Sulaimaniyah.
A policeman
was killed in Kut.
In Fallujah, a policeman
was severely injured by a bomb attached to his car.
An aide to the
minister of electricity and his driver were kidnapped
near Baiji yesterday.
Two
civilians were kidnapped on a highway between Mosul and Kirkuk.
A bomb blast near the Turkmen's Front offices in Kirkuk left no
casualties. Gunmen kidnapped
a security guard and a store owner in separate incidents.
In Riyadh,
an Iraqi soldier was
injured during a drive-by shooting.
In Baghdad, a roadside
bomb left no casualties
in the Zaafaraniya neighborhood. A Katyusha rocket fell on a home in Mashtal,
severely injuring two
residents. In al-Jadiriya, a mortar round fell on a police patrol, injuring
two policemen. Also, five
dumped bodies were discovered.
Iraqi security forces arrested
10 people, including a woman, in connection with a bombing in Sulaimaniyah
two weeks ago. In Rashad, 17 people were arrested
as well as a senior al-Qaeda
leader. Four suspects were detained
in Karbala and another five were captured
in Kirkuk. Also, ten suspects confessed
to involvement in clashes that occurred in Kut last week.
