Monday: 20 Iraqis Killed, 49 Iraqis Wounded

At least 20 Iraqis were killed and 49 more were injured during the latest violence. No Coalition deaths were reported. Meanwhile, a mass grave may have been found in Diyala province, but conflicting reports indicate it may have been the mass burial of unclaimed bodies from the morgue instead. Also, five possibly foreign fighters were killed.

Authorities in Qatan found 25 bodies in a mass grave, but a separate report has the bodies being buried after they had gone unidentified for 40 days. Although the custom is to bury the dead quickly, authorities will commonly hold them for a period of time if they are unidentified, so that family members can come forward. Mass graves are often found there as well.

In Baghdad, a bomb targeting police, killed four people and wounded 12 in the Karrada district. In Harthiya, five people were wounded during a bombing. Mortars targeted the Green Zone, but no casualties were reported. Army forces captured six suspects. One Iraqi soldier was killed and five civilians were wounded in Rusafa. Gunmen tossed grenades and wounded two policemen in Shabb. Three jewelers were killed and two policemen were wounded during an armed attack. Also, three dumped bodies were found.

In Mosul, a policeman was shot dead while on foot patrol. An IED blast injured two policemen in one incident and another policeman in a separate one. Five people were injured during a roadside bombing. Also, two suspects were detained.

Two chieftains were killed during a home invasion in Tal Afar.

At an Awakening Council (Sahwa) checkpoint in Tarmiya, a bomb blast killed one person and wounded three others.

Mortar fire in Wajihiya killed a man and wounded three members of his family.

Four women were wounded when a roadside bomb exploded near Muqdadiya. Two people were wounded when gunmen opening fire in a separate incident.

A roadside bomb killed a man driving a tractor near Baquba.

In Balad Ruz, a woman was shot dead.

Gunmen killed a retired officer in Hibhib.

One person was wounded during a roadside bombing in Dali Abbas.

Coalition troops killed five suspected al-Qaeda members, possibly foreign, in remote northwest Iraq today.

Five suspects were detained in Baiji.

Raids in Basra resulted in the confiscation of numerous weapons. Twelve men were detained. Also, no casualties were reported after a rocket attack on the British base.

Karbala police defused a roadside bomb and confiscated 70 mortars. They also arrested a dangerous suspect from Diyala province.

Five suspects were detained near Kut.

In Numaniya, the Georgian base suffered a mortar attack.

Two policemen were injured during a rocket propelled grenade attack in Zanjili.

A policeman was gunned down in Amara.
