One American servicemember
was killed and five others were wounded in separate incidents around Baghdad.
In northern Iraq, four Coalition contractors were also killed, but their
nationalities are unknown at press time. At least 36 Iraqis were killed or found dead and
28 more were wounded in other attacks. Also, a UN representative reported
that one-sixth of Iraq's population has been displaced due to violence.
A
U.S.
soldier was killed and four others were wounded in an IED attack west
of the capital. In northern Baghdad, another U.S.
soldier was wounded along with his translator when mortars fell and set
off more explosions. A roadside bomb killed
four contractors and wounded eight more while traveling in a Coalition convoy
south of Mosul. The nationalities of the contractors were not released pending
family notification. An unmanned craft crashed
in southern Baghdad.
In Baghdad, three
bodies were found. Guards attempting to disperse a crowd who had gathered
to collect their salaries injured
10 of them. A bomb in the Adhimiya neighborhood killed
one civilian. Gunmen killed
a dean from al-Qadisiyah University while he was driving in central Baghdad.
In Amil, gunmen killed
an Iraqi airlines employee. A roadside bomb injured
five people near Andalus Square. Also, at least 35 people were
arrested
and eight bombs were defused.
A shop
owner was killed in Kut. The city is under
a motorcycle curfew. None may ride at night and riders must be kept to one
per motorcycle in the daytime. Many drive-by shootings involve a second man on
a motorcycle.
Three
people were wounded during a roadside bombing in Baquba. A woman
was killed in a roadside bombing.
In Balad Ruz, a roadside
bomb wounded
three policemen.
Three
al-Qaeda suspects were killed when clashes broke out in Abu Saida.
A roadside bomb outside a Kirkuk courthouse injured
a policeman and three civilians.
Gunmen killed
one person and wounded another in Tikrit. A roadside bomb killed
a policeman.
U.S. forces killed
a former Iraqi army officer during a raid on his home in Shurqat.
Thirteen
Maysan province commissioners renounced
their membership in protest of the detention of three fellow members and other
violations during a security operation imposed by Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
In Mosul, four suspects were arrested.
Also, an
Iraqi soldier was wounded in an unrelated bombing.
Twenty-two
bodies were found at a school in Ramadi.
