At least six Iraqis were killed and 13 more were wounded in the latest
round of violence. No Coalition deaths were reported. Also, Iraq formally turned
over to the U.N. a document ratifying a ban against chemical weapons.
In Mosul, a suicide bomber killed
two people and wounded
at least four others at a Zanjili checkpoint. One
person was killed and another was wounded when they bomb they were allegedly
planting blew up prematurely. In Sideeq, an Iraqi soldier killed
one man and injured another who were launching rockets. Also, four "sound
bombs" were detonated at Mosul
University and left no casualties.
An off-duty
policeman was killed in Kirkuk. A kidnapping gang was arrested.
In Baghdad, a bomb on Palestine St. wounded
four people. Three
people were wounded when a bomb was detonated in Zaafaraniya. A sticky
bomb was found and defused
under a car belonging to the transport ministry’s undersecretary. A bomb was detonated
near Sirafiya Bridge, but no
casualties have as yet been reported. Also, 33 suspects were detained and
one kidnap victim was liberated.
A body was found near Makhmour.
Three Islamic State of Iraq members were arrested
in Hawija.
Nine people were arrested in Amara and their
weapons, including Katyusha rockets, were seized.
Separately, a bomb targeting a U.S. convoy left no
casualties.
A suspected al-Qaeda leader was detained
in Khalis.
Near Kut, 28 Katyusha rockets were seized.
A bicycle bomb was found in
Nasariya. A motorcycle bomb was also defused.
As part of precautions taken ahead of upcoming elections, Najaf has divided
the city into 11 security districts.
