The REAL reason Mr. Obama won’t declare Egypt a “coup?”

According to The Foreign Assistance Act of 1961, The U.S. Government must suspend aid, particularly military aid, to any country suffering a military coup. (Sec. 508).

SHARIF ABDEL KOUDDOUS: Egypt — the [Egyptian] military does get this $1.3 billion of [U.S.] aid, but it has to be spent purchasing U.S. weapons. And so, all of this money really gets funneled to U.S. defense contractors that are the real big beneficiary of these funds, that have very large lobbying firms in Washington and that lobby very strongly for this aid to keep going. … The Washington Post had a very interesting article today showing that since the 1980s the United States has granted Egypt an extraordinary ability to make these orders with these American defense contractors that are worth far more than the funds Congress has already appropriated. So it’s essentially like this massive credit card that Egypt has, with a limit of billions of dollars. And it’s something called “cash flow financing.” So Egypt can submit these large orders for equipment that will take years to produce and deliver, and it’s under the assumption that U.S. lawmakers will just continue funneling the aid. — Egypt Tensions Escalate as Morsi Detained and Supporters of Army, Brotherhood Hold Rival Protests | Democracy Now!

  1. Congress should continue all funding to the Army. They are the ones fighting against the Muslim Brotherhood.

    1. Mobile phones can be like toys. You don't really need all the features they have but they're so much fun to have. This philosophy is OK for some but savvy consumers will determine their needs and buy accordingly. home site

  2. It's clear Morsi killed the peaceful protesters… Should Morsi not be held to account?

Also, Morsi supported "Holy War" against Syria simply for bigoted 'sectarian' reasons (Assad is married to a 'Sunni' BTW…).

Is all this "okay" in Antiwar.com's eyes? Where was the 'outrage' here when Morsi came to power and ruled? Where was the coverage here of Morsi killing the peaceful protesters when they protested his autocratic rule? Where is the coverage of burning churches and the killing of Coptic Christians?

I think all 'readers' deserve 'clarification' from this site moving forward here.

Does AW.C support the terrorists and bigots of the so-called "Muslim Brotherhood" and their violent, ruthless, and overtly bigoted and racist tactics?

    1. Well, Ben_C, I can't speak for antiwar.com, I just post here sometimes. Antiwar is mostly, well, antiwar. Like the U.S. is supposed to be but isn't, my observation is that antiwar.com tries to remain antiwar but neutral.

However, I do know it operates on a shoe-string, so It's not reasonably possible for the dedicated folks here to cover everything from all sides.
