Did Zelensky Tell Rupert Murdoch To Fire Tucker Carlson?

On The Jimmy Dore Show guest host Aaron Maté and Kurt Metzger discuss whether Zelensky had an impact on the Fox News network’s decision to jettison Carlson.

A few weeks before Tucker Carlson was fired, Rupert Murdoch reportedly spoke to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. It’s not clear what Zelensky said, but it’s been well established that the Ukrainian government objected to Carlson’s opposition to U.S. support for Ukraine in the war with Russia.

  1. I love the Jimmy Dore Show, and Aaron Mate’ is a great fill-in host.

  2. According to some surces Zelenski is travelling a lot — Finland, Belgium, Germany, and somewhere else. Speculation is – he does not feel too safe at home. It is probably baseless speculation, yet it begs a question — why so much travel? Embassies would do to handle confidential communications. The only explanation is -he needs to meet with some people personally and communication should remain outside official embassy channels. Be that giving or receiving messages — it will have to remain within narrow circle.

    1. Not only is that not “the only explanation,” it’s only an “explanation” for someone who’s watched too much Austin Powers, International Man of Mystery.

Zelenskyy’s main job is to be a very visible figurehead, fundraiser, etc. There was a window within which the “see him on video, bravely remaining in Kyiv while missiles rain down” schtick worked, but at some point every show has to go on the road.

      1. I look upon him as a salesman spewing half truths to sell a product.
With a little eastern European mafioso thrown in to describe his manner.

        1. Half truths”? From Zelenskyy?

Methinks that characterization is off by both “half” and “truth”.

  3. If he did he was just one voice among of the many fascists who made that demand.

  4. Carlson was the lone voice on TV against the war. I never watched his show and was told he sucked on other issues, but on war and freedom of the press & speech he was on the right side, even if it was for the wrong reasons.

    1. As Caitlin Johnson said:

“What does it look like when someone criticizes nuclear brinkmanship with Russia, for example, and then starts babbling about woke M&Ms and saying the commies are trying to make your son wear a dress? It makes it all look bogus.”

And his views on Pot are straight out of the “Reefer Madness” movie.

      1. Well, I totally disagree that a person can’t have views with which you agree on one or some issues, and views with which you totally disagree on others. I generally like Caitlin Johnson, but I couldn’t disagree more on this. What Carlson thinks about these other issues is totally irrelevant to whether he opposes the war, and to his support of Julian Assange and other free speech issues.

There is nothing “bogus” about a person taking a principled stand on a major issue when it’s in total opposition to what their bosses and the rulers want. It’s brave to stand up against the war on TV, why do you think Carlson got fired?

        1. I think it more likely his questionable taste emails that the plaintiffs were going to use in the lawsuit that caused Fox to have to settle rather than keep fighting because they were too damaging to its defense. Simply money. “Damn it we have to settle, fire the bastard for it” kind of thing. The timing was bang-bang on that, just long enough to pass the firing/contract release through the lawyers. Fox hadn’t cared about his Russia-Ukraine take for a year and no indication it did. Just speculation without even circumstantial evidence at this point.

        2. Saying stupid shit about other issues is certainly relevant. How much a person is respected goes a long way in whether their views are taken seriously or not.

  5. I dunno, I feel like the fact that he lied so much about the election and also called his coworkers c***s probably had more to do with it. The question is not “why did he get fired” but “how did he stay around for so long” and the answer is that FOX doesn’t care about the truth, they only care about $$$$$$$, and firing him would have cost $$ because ratings.

So the reason Tucker got fired was, he was about to cost them more money than he was making them. That’s all that FOX has ever cared about, and it’s all they ever will care about. The balance sheet swung against him and poof he’s gone.

I love Antiwar.com, or did, but if you guys are gonna be posting conspiracy theories like you’re my grandma, I’m out. I’m here for facts, not complete and total BS that’s obvious to anyone who thinks about it for more than 10 seconds.

It’s sad for me to see Antiwar fall so hard. Be better.

    1. Not only do you totally lack evidence for what you wrote, at least one of your facts is provably false. Rupert Murdoch, who founded and runs FOX, is a far right ideologue. Sure, rich people worship money, but that has nothing to do with what FOX is about. Murdoch founded it to counter liberal voices in the media. I have no doubt that he cares deeply about money, but ideology is the main reason for FOX. And yes, some of the FOX executives made money-based decisions regarding January 6, but again that wasn’t Murdoch and money wasn’t the reason for FOX’s existence.

      1. Murdoch got his rise putting topless 16-year olds on page 3 of The Sun. Money is the worship. Talent is expendable to the Murdochs. Politicians even more so. The notion that they give a damn what a short-shelf-life tinpot like Zelensky thinks of their top rated show is laughable.

    2. I agree with you, but.

“It’s sad for me to see Antiwar fall so hard. Be better.”

That pro-censorship bullsh-t is what’s leading us to the war the MIC want so bad.
