A Trauma Surgeon Who Worked in Gaza Says: Support Antiwar.com

My name is Feroze Sidhwa. I’m a trauma surgeon in California. I worked in the Gaza Strip in March and April of 2024. What I saw there is indescribable, a massive military assault directed at a civilian population, half of whom are children. Widespread malnutrition caused by a deliberate policy of starvation. Small children shot in the head or chest. An entire society almost destroyed, all with the help of our tax dollars and the US government’s bombs and diplomatic support. There is something truly perverse about trying to save a child who has been shredded to pieces by a bomb I paid for. Oh, and last week Israel banned the organization that sent me to Gaza, the Palestinian American Medical Association, from providing aid to Gaza.

I started reading Antiwar.com in 2000. That year, the Second Intifada broke out, and, of course in the next year we had 9-11. Antiwar.com helped me develop an understanding of how the world actually works, and especially what my government’s role in the world has been. Without Antiwar.com and other independent media organizations, people find it hard to consume mainstream media without being misled. As Noam Chomsky used to say, these organizations help people develop intellectual self-defense.

Antiwar.com is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, and has been doing this work since 1995. It is reader-supported and takes no money from any government. I hope you will support Antiwar.com’s work in any way you can!

  1. I wish Antiwar.com would become the Mainstream Media and the Mainstream Media would go the way of the Whig Party.
Western Governments and Media distort what really goes on in the ME. They say Palestinians behead Israeli Babies, use people as human shields and rape Israelis when it is Israelis doing that to Palestinians.
Doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers are witnessing Israelis deliberately killing people in Gaza and Israel's cheerleaders say "Israel Has The Right To Defend Itself", Israel is denying the Palestinians the right to defend themselves with help from the USA and many other allies.

    1. One of the doctors, Dr. Perlmutter, from America, said that he was not ready for what he saw in Gaza. Children shot in the head and chest by Israeli sniper. The horrible trauma of the victims of the bombing.
He said that for the first time in his medical career he held a baby's brain.
Just horrified by what he saw daily.
He is one of 65 health professionals that submitted an open letter to the Biden administration describing what they saw.

    2. There was a time when all we had was the Mainstream Media… you had a choice of either CBS, NBC, or ABC assisted by the New York Times, Time or Newsweek. Thank God for the internet where we can find alternative sources of information apart from the propaganda media.

      1. The Internet certainly made it easier to find alternative media. But even in a small midwestern town in the 1970s, people who wanted it — like me — could get hold of the Berkeley Barb, Village Voice, etc. There’s always been alternative media.

        1. The Internet made it A LOT EASIER. I remember the Village Voice but I never heard of Berkeley Barb.

  2. Imagine leaving the safety and comfort of your successful life as a Doctor in the US and willingly risking your life to work in the Gaza death camp to try to help the mutilated civilians being mass slaughtered there. How do you find words to commend such personal bravery and dedication to serving suffering humanity?

  3. Dr. Feroze Sidhwa, Thank you for your service to HUMANITY! You are an HONOR to your profession! Please keep writing.
