Journalist Seeks To Enlighten Bay Area About Hamas

Acclaimed  international  journalist and publisher Helena Cobban is visiting the Bay Area with public events from October 10-15. Cobban is the founder of the highly-regarded publishing house Just World Books with many books on Palestine, Gaza and the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Most recently she and Palestinian journalist Rami Khouri conducted interviews with five leading experts on Hamas. These are combined in a compelling book which sheds tremendous light on what Hamas is and is not. The title is Understanding Hamas and Why It Matters.  The book has received glowing reviews from diverse experts.  Prof Avi Shlaim of Oxford University said,

Here a group of real experts offer a nuanced, historically-based and strikingly fair-minded account of the ideology and practice of Hamas… Their book should be required reading for all Western policy-makers.”

Cobban and other experts on Palestine are speaking at the following free public events:

  • Thursday, Oct 10 – 7 pm –  Eastside Arts Alliance, 2277 International Blvd, Oakland.
  • Saturday, Oct 12 – 12 noon – Westhope Presbyterian Church, 12850 Saratoga Ave, Saratoga
  • Saturday, Oct 12 – 4 pm – Trinity Presbyterian Church, 420 Melrose Ave, Santa Cruz

  1. Helena Cobban is doing the right thing by telling the Bay Area about Hamas. I know Gavin Newsom will not attend the event and he kowtows to Israel and its proxies. He was the mayor of San Francisco before he became the governor.
