US Veterans Applauds Israeli Soldiers Who Refuse to Fight in Gaza, Call for US GI’s to Resist Illegal Wars and War Crimes

The US organization Veterans For Peace has issued a statement in support of Israeli soldiers who are refusing to fight in Gaza.

“You are doing the right thing,” the veterans group writes, while applauding the Israeli military reservists who are calling for a ceasefire and the release of hostages, and who say they will not participate in genocide. “Your courageous stance may be answered by official threats and even imprisonment, but you will never regret refusing to kill innocent Palestinian men, women and children.”

Veterans to VP Harris: Push Now To End the Siege of Gaza

The national organization Veterans For Peace has written an Open Letter to Vice President Kamala Harris, asking her to push for an immediate end to the siege of Gaza.  The letter begins:

“Dear Vice President Harris, we are reaching out to you as military veterans who have fought in multiple US wars, and who continue to uphold the US Constitution and international law, to organize for justice and equality in our home communities, and to advocate for a peaceful foreign policy. We are appalled by the ongoing Israeli slaughter of tens of thousands of Palestinian men, women and children and by the maiming of tens of thousands more. We are outraged by the systematic blocking of food, leading to malnutrition, starvation, disease and the deaths of many more, particularly babies and young children.  These are unbearable and unacceptable crimes that will go down in the history books as a terrible genocide – a holocaust.”

Veteran’s Trial Will Highlight Weapons Manufacturers’ Complicity in Gaza Genocide

This Wednesday, June 26, Jack Gilroy, an 89-year-old veteran, will tell a court in Endicott, New York why he was compelled to deliver a letter to weapons manufacturer BAE Systems, protesting their weapons shipments to Israel, and why he should not be convicted of trespassing.

“This case is not about trespass,” said Jack Gilroy, who was a machine gunner in occupied Austria. “My intent was not to break the law but to uphold it. I was warning BAE Systems management and staff that they were complicit in genocide.”

‘The Law Is Simple’: Israel’s Unregulated Nukes Mean Biden Must Halt Military Aid

The national organization Veterans For Peace is demanding that the Biden Administration abide by US law regarding the illegal possession of unregulated nuclear weapons and halt all military aid to Israel. In a letter to President Biden and top members of his administration, Veterans For Peace asserts that US law requires the cutoff of all military aid to Israel because it possesses nuclear weapons in noncompliance with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). Israel does not admit it possesses nuclear weapons, has not signed the NPT and does not allow inspections of its nuclear arsenal.

The letter lists multiple credible reports that Israel has possessed nuclear weapons for decades. Because Israel has not signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation treaty (NPT), the Symington-Glenn Amendments to the International Security Assistance and Arms Export Control Act of 1976, which allow no presidential discretion, requires the suspension of all military aid.

Biden’s Mixed Messages on Gaza Aren’t Fooling Veterans

The average person could be forgiven if they are confused by U.S. policy toward the ongoing Israeli slaughter and starvation of Palestinians in Gaza.  On Saturday, March 2, as global protests called for an end to the genocide in Gaza, the U.S. military dropped 38,000 MRE’s (“meals-ready-to-eat”) on Gaza beaches, and in the sea.

Is this finally a bold effort to alleviate the suffering that Palestinians are experiencing at the hands of the Israel? Does it foretell the dramatic change in U.S. policy that the world has been protesting and praying for? Or is it merely a public relations effort intended to blunt growing criticism of U.S. complicity in genocide?
