Telling the truth now a crime in Bosnia?

French General Philippe Morillon, whose intervention saved the Muslim enclave of Srebrenica from defeat in 1993 and helped establish it as a “safe area” for civilians (and the 28th Infantry Division of the Bosnian [Muslim] Army), made a fatal error last week. He let the truth slip out in his testimony against Slobodan Milosevic at the Hague Inquisition. Now the association of former Srebrenica residents plans to sue him for being an “accessory to genocide”, reported a Croatian daily. Continue reading “Telling the truth now a crime in Bosnia?”

Serbia destroys air defenses?

Five years ago, NATO bombers that terrorized Serbia kept above 15,000 feet in fear of ground defenses, which had downed many drones, cruise missiles and even a couple of aircraft (including the famous F-117 Stealth).
In two weeks, the Serbian military will destroy the last of its shoulder-launched anti-air missiles, under a program quietly initiated last year and funded by the US government, announced Reuters today. Continue reading “Serbia destroys air defenses?”

Jack and the phantom journal

USA Today’s star foreign correspondent, Jack Kelley, landed in hot water over fabricating a story about a journal purporting to “prove” Serbs were “ethnically cleansing” Kosovo. After an internal investigation, Kelley resigned from the paper. Case closed? Hardly. The investigation, and the media coverage thereof, are doing their best to whitewash Kelley’s fabrication, even as they feed him to the sharks. Continue reading “Jack and the phantom journal”

Democracy vs. Freedom

Every time I question either the policies or character of the “reformers” in the former Yugoslavia, there’s guaranteed to be at least one letter accusing me of sympathies for the nationalists, nationalist-socialists, etc.
My disdain for democracy really gets people’s goat. It doesn’t seem to matter if I link to my arguments against it (rather than interrupt my current text for a lengthy explanation). Since I don’t intend to explain the issue over and over again, here it is, in a nutshell:
The argument I’ve adopted is very simple. Democracy is a tyranny in which individual and property rights are subject to decisions of the majority. It cannot be restrained by laws, as laws themselves are subject to revision by vote. Even a virtuous society that respects life, liberty and property rights is not guarantor enough, as it can be subjugated by the force of government (which itself is subject to democratic procedure). Therefore, it is impossible by definition to have both democracy and liberty.
Democracy and peace are also mutually exclusive. There are constant internal conflicts between political groupings in any given democratic country. Democracies can and do start external wars (think of what happened in Kosovo, or Iraq), and once begun, these wars are extremely hard to terminate, because of popular support (“patriotism”) they draw on (think Vietnam). A real “Joint Criminal Conspiracy”

In mid-November, one Bosnian TV station broadcast the 169th installment of a program called “TV Tribunal” – a weekly newscast dedicated to “informing” the public about the Hague Inquisition. What made it special was a segment in which Head Inquisitor, Carla DelPonte, speaks of her hunt for Slobodan Milosevic, which contained several interesting revelations. Transcript of the segment, in translation, is featured in this week’s edition of Serbian magazine NIN.
In it, DelPonte says she had initiated and maintained secret contacts with Zoran Djindjic, Washington’s hand-picked quisling in Serbia, before he came to power – so secret, not even the Inquisition knew about them. At their first meeting, in Switzerland, Djindjic vowed to deliver Milosevic to The Hague.
DelPonte also claims that Djindjic coordinated Milosevic’s abduction with the ICTY and NATO, and that ICTY had agents on the ground (in Serbia) to ensure all would go as planned. Continue reading “A real “Joint Criminal Conspiracy””

RFE discovers inter-Albanian tolerance

Radio Free Europe, a US-operated propaganda setup in Prague, often runs ludicrous reports about Kosovo and Bosnia, but this one takes the cake.
Apparently, thousands of Muslim Albanians are going to Catholic Christmas celebrations this year, and this has the RFE types in a tizzy of multi-cultist pleasure. The “news” is accompanied by pious pronouncements of a Catholic priest and head mufti of Kosovo’s Muslims, about “tolerance,” “civilization” and so forth.
As you may have expected, there’s a problem. This vaunted “tolerance” extends only to Albanians.
