Witnesses Say IDF Troops ‘Executed’ Women and Children in Gaza School

Eyewitness testimony reported Wednesday by Al Jazeera accused Israeli troops of massacring forcibly displaced women and children sheltering at a school in northern Gaza, an allegation that prompted a leading U.S. Muslim advocacy group to demand a response from President Joe Biden.

The reported massacre took place at the Shadia Abu Ghazala School in the al-Faluja area west of the Jabalia refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip. Video footage aired by the Qatar-based news network showed numerous covered bodies piled in one of the school’s classrooms.

Oppenheimer Finally Gets Release Date in Japan

Reprinted with permission from Greg Mitchell’s newsletter Oppenheimer: From Hiroshima to Hollywood.

Despite its global popularity last summer and early fall, including in China and other Asian markets, it was no shock to find that a wide release in Japan was kept on hold. Might have happened anyway, but this was guaranteed after Japanese protested some of the early “Barbenheimer” promotion there, which I wrote about here. Sample of an offending poster:

Some Japanese Twitter users responded with photos of the 1945 bombing victims.

Yesterday we finally got word of a release in Japan, with no fixed date but likely in spring, for Oscar season, which even there gets wide attention. The distributor has the rather too on-the-nose name, Bitters End.

Ret. Col. Ann Wright Unmasks the Truth in Arms Transfer Debate

In a heated session at the United Nations Security Council, diplomats engaged in a vigorous debate over the provision of arms to Ukraine amid the protracted war with Russia. The eleventh meeting on this pressing issue since Russia invaded in February of 2022 drew sharp criticisms from multiple speakers, who accused Moscow of deflecting attention from its own aggression.

An Important Message From John Mearsheimer

John Mearsheimer is the Wendell Harrison Distinguished Service Professor of Political Science at the University of Chicago and one of the leading foreign policy scholars in America. Here’s what he has to say to you. Also, read his new article, “Death and Destruction in Gaza.”

Dear Antiwar.com Reader,

It is amazing how much war there is in the world today. Not only is there a major conflict raging between Russia and Ukraine, which has been going on for close to two years and shows few signs of ending, but also now there is a deadly war between Hamas and Israel in Gaza. Unsurprisingly, the United States is deeply involved in both conflicts, backing Ukraine and Israel to the hilt, even as the latter wages a bombing campaign that is killing huge numbers of civilians. There is also an ever-present danger that both conflicts will escalate horizontally, bringing more countries into the fight. Then there is East Asia, where China and the United States are engaged in an intense security competition that could easily turn into a shooting war. And if that were to happen, there would be a danger of nuclear weapons being used. Of course, there are further armed conflicts taking place in Africa and other regions of the world. History is back with a vengeance!

Ukraine Builds Reverse Wall in Losing War Against Russia

Since the Russian invasion nearly 2 years ago, Ukraine has beefed up its border defenses, even building a wall in some areas. But it’s not to keep the Russkies out. It’s to keep thousands of draft dodging Ukrainian men aged 18 to 60 safely inside Ukraine so they can be flung into the slaughterhouse near the Donbas.

Besides 50 ways to leave you lover, there’s 50 ways to leave Ukraine. All the recruitment center heads have been fired for taking bribes by draft dodgers. Truckers are selling fake driver jobs to men who then exit the trucks near or over the border. Many simply flee on foot through mountainous areas. Some dress as women, priests or doctors. Daring ones squeeze themselves into secret vehicle compartments to be driven over the border by compatriots.
