Israel Used US-Supplied Bomb in Beirut Strike That Killed at Least 22 Lebanese

At least one U.S.-supplied bomb was used by Israel in a Thursday night airstrike that killed at least 22 people and wounded over 115 more in the Lebanese capital of Beirut, according to a Guardian analysis published on Friday.

The crisis, conflict, and arms division of Human Rights Watch and a former U.S. military explosives expert analyzed shrapnel from a bomb used by Israel in the strike on an apartment complex in the densely populated Basta neighborhood near central Beirut and concluded it came from a joint direct attack munition (JDAM) manufactured by Boeing.

Nobel Peace Prize Goes to Qualified Recipient for First Time in at Least Six Years

From World Beyond War:

Congratulations are in order for Nihon Hidankyo, the Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations. The Nobel Peace Prize has for the first time in at least six years gone to a group of people who work to reduce warmaking, people who in fact seek to abolish nuclear weapons. Nihon Hidankyo has relentlessly done the work of educating the world, thanklessly, for many years. This prize should be celebrated far and wide.

Congratulations are also in order to the Nobel Committee, for somehow maintaining the prestige of the Nobel Peace Prize despite how the committee has mistreated it time and time again, and for — this time — getting it right. May this mark a new principled commitment!

And congratulations may also be deserved by the Nobel Peace Prize Watch, which has worked for many years to influence the Nobel Committee to begin complying with the requirements of the will of Alfred Nobel, and to the group’s leader, the late Fredrik S. Heffermehl, whose books on the topic of the Nobel Peace Prize — including  on who should have been awarded it 123 different years — have been outstandingly educational and inspiring.

Kelley Vlahos Interviews Dave DeCamp & Kyle Anzalone: We’re at War Now, Face it

From Trip the Beltway Fantastic:

The war in Gaza continues today with scores of Palestinians dead, mostly from airstrikes on shelters and schools and neighborhoods outside hospitals. The displaced have nowhere else to go. In the meantime, the Israeli military has expanded its bombing and ground campaign into Lebanon, with more than 1400 dead and a million displaced since mid-September.

A new generation of reporters and editors at Antiwar.com, which has been challenging U.S. national security policy and militarism since the Bosnia War, has been working non-stop to provide readers with comprehensive, independent news on Israel’s war on Gaza and now its neighbors, since Oct. 7. It represents the libertarian right, a stalwart non-interventionist orbit that draws in fellow travelers from across the ideological and political spectrum and counts as its lodestars Ron Paul and the late Justin Raimondo.

Journalist Ramzy Baroud Mourns His Sister Killed Today by Israeli Bombs

Early this evening, Israel killed, or more accurately assassinated, my sister Dr. Soma Baroud, by bombing her taxi in the Khan Yunis area, killing her and six other innocent people.

She was the kindest soul, a great mother and a most loving sister.

She was a member of a generation of female doctors that revolutionized medicine in the Strip.
