My Illinois Senators Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin had their chance to make a dent in Israel’s ongoing 102 day genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. They voted to continue it.

Senator Bernie Sanders offered a mild resolution calling on the State Department to determine if the billions in US 2,000 lb. bombs and other weapons Israel uses to make Gaza uninhabitable are committing human rights violations there. Under the 1961 Foreign Assistance Act, US weapons aid would be frozen if such violations are found occurring.

In my “daily briefing” from Reuters this morning, an old canard popped up again:

As Donald Trump strengthens his lead in the race for the Republican nomination, some US allies are worried about an American turn toward isolationism, a shift that would reflect an electorate largely focused on domestic issues.

We can’t have a U.S. electorate focused on domestic issues! That would be “isolationism.” America must lead! Because Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, Somalia, Yemen, Gaza, et al.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the US Saturday that his 100 day war of genocidal ethnic cleansing of 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza has got ‘MADE IN USA’ stamped all over it.

“This is not just our war – it is also your war. This is the war of the sons of light against the sons of darkness. This is a war against the axis of evil led by Iran and its three proxies: Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis.”

UPDATE: On Tuesday night the Senate voted down the Sanders resolution by a vote of 72-11.

Sen. Bernie Sanders said Sunday that he will force a Senate floor vote this week on a resolution that would suspend aid to Israel if the U.S. State Department fails to report on how Israeli weapons – many of them supplied by the United States – are being used in Gaza.

Appearing on CNN‘s “State of the Union,” Sanders (I-Vt.) told host Jake Tapper that he will force a Tuesday evening vote on his resolution, which is based on Section 502B(c) of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961, legislation empowering Congress to “request information on a particular country’s human rights practices and to alter or terminate U.S. security assistance to that country in light of the information received.”
